Ashanti - A forgotten R&B icon?
Ashanti was everywhere in the early 00's. Where there was a rap song, she would be singing the chorus. Then she exploded with her own music career and was pretty much the No 1 R&B female at that time in music.
Any fans? Been listening to her fans and just forgotten what an incredible artist she is, and how forgotten she has really become over the last several years. |

I used to really like a few of her songs when I was younger - Happy, Foolish, Always On Time and What's Luv, and especially Mesmerize, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to call her an "icon". She was certainly popular for a time though.

I like some of her songs. Nothing extraordinary, but her tracks were catchy. I like 'Happy', 'Foolish', 'Only You' and 'Rain On Me'.
I'm not sure she's an icon though. She used to be very successful, but she faded way too quickly to be considered iconic. |

I loved "What's Love" and "Always On Time"....I think she just faded out because she stuck to straight R&B which went out of fashion pretty quickly in the later half of the 00s....in fact none of those "R&B divas" lasted, Christina Milian, JoJo, Amerie etc they all faded pretty quickly...
It would be great if she tried to make a comeback at one stage though, R&B style music is coming back into fashion and she had a really unique voice. |

I remember her mum causing a tyrade over Susan Boyle beating Ashanti's album record for fastest selling album or something along those lines.
That said, Foolish was my jam. |

I love Only U! she released a new song in the US last year but it didn't perform very well so I doubt it'd be released over here

Actually Icon was a bit exaggerated. Diva then
![]() Would love to see her make a big comeback. She is one of the few R&B singers to have not converted to dance trash. |

I do miss Ashanti. Not the best singer at the time but good quality songs and a very strong songwriter.
Her debut album was extremely good and also her 3rd album Concrete Rose I believe it was called was excellent. She actually had a song on the Daniel Craig film Dream House soundtrack last year or year before? Beautiful and really well sung ballad, worth a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4slWAA-ymtg |

Loved Only U, Rain On Me and The Way That I Love You.
That one song she had called "Ooh Baby" or whatever it was called was totally ridiculous though as it was just "ah baby/ooh baby" all the way through

She's hardly an icon but her first album had some great songs. 'over' was an amazing ballad .

It is true, her time seems to have passed, but her old stuff still stacks up today. |

I love her, but I don't think she's forgotten. I went clubbing last night and they played What's Luv? and everybody was singing all the words. She's well-known with people ages 18+, probably not with younger people though who can't remember when she was huge.

I brought her first album and it was very nice but then I sort of lost interest in RnB music and got more into rock/alternative but she was really good. Great voice.

I have Foolish on my iPod. I don't listen to the song often but I always enjoy it when I do.

I loved Ashanti! She kind of rode off of Ja rule's popularity back then and then both kind off fell off at the same time. That "Good good" song she released like last year or whenever was rubbish though.

Ashanti is still around.
Her music is nothing short of abysmal now. Sorry, sounds harsh, But true. Really really badly written dull mediocre. I don't know what the hell has happened to her, she used to be amazing. I absolutely adore her first album, still listen to it. Infact her first 3 albums were all solid. Perhaps she doesn't fit the current music scene ? Though I don't see why that would stop her releasing decent r&b tunes. |

Love Ashanti and her timeless tunes. To add to the list of great songs: Baby, Love Again and Don't Let Them.
