^ Reading your username, I love the instrumental to Rick Ross's new song with Tyga, Dope.

Also I'm On One and Lemme See have amazing (and similar) instrumentals.

To be honest, as much as I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga she gets some amazing instrumentals.

Yeah I do....thats just fantastic.

Im an old school Northern Soulie in many ways and I love absolutely sh*tloads of instrumentals that no ones ever heard of but loads of Motown backing tracks by the Funk Brothers do it for me as well

Am I being really thick here..but none of these (apart from Coletrane) are instrumentals...or is my interpratation of an 'instrumental' different from everyone else's?

I get confused about this too, some say they're just beats.

Most of Mogwai's output.
Ephemeral by Pelican.
All Is Silent, All Is Bright by God Is An Astronaut.

Not a vocal to be heard.

I'm as as you are.

It seems a whole generation has grown up not knowing what an instrumental is.

I love to hear Alison Krauss & Union Station play "Cluck Old Hen".

God bless you and them always!!!

Holly (a fan of them since 1994)

P.S. I love to hear them play "Choctaw Hayride" too.

Add another one to the highly confused column.

Are people confusing instrumentals with instrumental breaks? If so then the two are very different things.

This still sounds good even though it was recorded nearly 50 years ago, on a Lowrey organ - not a Hammond.

Alan Haven - "Image" (1965)

And nobody makes records like this any more
"Soul Coaxing" - Raymond Lefevre and his Orchestra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMcvr5Pp3nY (1968)
