Hi I was wanting a media player to stream lovefilm and you tube content on my tv and my friend is offering a ps3 quite cheap, I don't have any broadband connection and the only internet connection I have is on my android phone via wireless hotspot, I am on the one plan and get full signal at my home, however my connection speed on the 3g network changes from 0.5mb to 8mb depending on time of day ect. is this possible to connect and use my phone ok?

How does the lovefilm and you tube work on the ps3, does it work like it does on my mobile phone where you select the video to play and if you pause it the video will carry on downloading or buffering? just thinking if my phone was suitable but the connection speed was slightly to slow for the content, where I could pause it to get in front and play it without any breaks or skipping in playing?

Keith

It might be a little slow and will use a lot of data but I see no reason why it won't work - dependant on whether your network blocks tethering access.

It should work.. But as mobile broadband is not cosistsnt by nature you may get a few more buffer interruptions than you would with even a slow ADSL connection.

It'll work, but you won't enjoy it.....the buffering will drive you mad as your signal varies.....You'll have to watch it on the lowest quality level most of the time....
Ask the friend for a trial of the PS3, at least then you will only have to use the free month to try it out......Better than any advice you can get on here...

I'm with Three on the one plan aswell and I tether my laptop to my iPhone and it plays 720/1080p HD videos without even stopping most of the time. But Im in a very strong signal area, my speeds range from 6/10mbps download, so pretty much always lightening fast

I've tried the BBC player thing on the ps3 and it worked fine, no stopping to buffer etc, but I don't use it really I only tested it once

I use about 25-30GB a month, imagine how much that would cost if i was paying?

I used to go over my allowance quite a lot, but not i'm on unlimited i hardly go over it! What the hell is that about!

I used to watch youtube and iplayer for the sake of it, but now only really stream podcasts on Stitcher. I guess the novelty ran out.

I did download some GBs of pkgs the other day though from my NAS .
