San Marzano tomatoes
Finally found some in Tesco Yay!
They're supposed to be the best tomatoes for making a tomato sauce. I think my tomato sauce is pretty good and haven't had any complaints from family & friends (unless they're just being polite )Can't wait to try knocking one up with these http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=271171347 |

Tinned tomatoes for the win, out of season. |

Tesco currently have an offer on for Parioli 4 packs. Never tried them but it's a decent offer.

The real question is chopped or whole? I always go for whole, they seem to retain more flavour. I like chopping anyway.

Tesco currently have them on offer at 2 for £2, until 7 March.
Parioli is a con, it's a Tesco own label! |

San Marzano is definitely my choice when you can get them. I even paid for a case from Italy once but the shipping costs were prohibitive. The only thing better for a sauce is using fresh home grown tomatoes in season.

![]() I agree they are the best for a sauce, Mr S used to sell them but stopped so it's great that they are back in the UK. I bought 24 at Mr T today

I'd love to know your recipe/technique
![]() Usually though it's a tin of tomatoes, some tomato puree, splash of read wine, pinch of salt, pepper, sugar and oregano. For this time though I used a recipe I saw on tv. I used tinned instead of fresh. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1640104 The garlic oil is lovely. When I made it a second time I put the confit garlic from making the oil into the sauce and mashed it in. |
