Bought the 15 disc boxset from HMV yesterday.I've been meaning to buy this boxset for some time & at £24.99 it was too good a price to pass up on.

I really, really want this. A shame I can't make an online purchase with them right now, as I'd feel less bad about spending money I don't realistically have

I'm just hoping that they'll release the extended editions on single sided bluray one day. i'd buy them then.

Wow, that's a pretty good bargain for HMV. Unfortunately I bought it years ago when it first came out lol.

Those big box extended LOTR DVDs were £20+ each when they first went on sale. I was given them as Christmas presents, and I've only watched them all twice. If you trade them in at CeX atm, you'll receive the princely total of £3.40 cash.

I'm not a huge fan, but I wanted to see the extended cuts and the boxset was going for the same price as the separate releases, and it's a VERY nice set. Even the packaging is nicer than I was expecting... |

If they did that then there would be a drop in PQ & SQ so what would be the point as surely having them in the best possible quality is a good thing isn't it?

If they did a single sided 1080p version with one audio track then I can't really see why that couldn't fit on a 50gb disc. |

I can kind of see your point, Fox stuck 4 hours of Homeland on one disc. Still looked good. That said, I don't mind disc swapping or disc ripping...

I've just always never liked disc swapping - the only exception was the early releases of 'Friends' on DVD where they had 4 episodes on each side of the disc. I didn't mind that so much

If you stripped it right back to the film, a single audio soundtrack and subtitles, it would surely fit? |

If you look at Return of the King, 1 disc is 37GB and the other is 40GB. Even taking away an audio track I think they still may be over 50GB without any compression. |

over 67Gb for Fellowship over 68Gb for Two Towers and over 77Gb for ROTK the quality would have to take a drop to squeeze them onto single discs |

fair enough. i've seen 1080p encoded versions on the pirate bay that come in around the 23gb mark so I guess I was thinking along those lines.
