iPhone 3GS: Volume control

So, I've had my iPhone 3GS for 4 or 5 years and it's still in superb condition and I have no desire to replace it.

However, I went to pick it up last night and I noticed the chrome part of the volume control was missing.
Fortunately, I KNEW it was there when I last used the phone, had a bit of a hunt around and located it.
I've applied a bit of superglue (carefully, with a toothpick), replaced the chrome button and it all seems to be working properly.

My question (which might seem a bit redundant, given that it's already fallen off once) is whether it's likely to come off again?

Obviously I now know it can come off but was this a common problem and is there something which can be done to minimise the possibility?

I'm wondering if, perhaps, the button getting bumped from a certain angle often causes this and maybe if I invest in a case which shrouds the button it'll minimise the likelihood of it happening again?

As I say, I'm quite happy with the phone but if the volume button is gonna keep falling off every couple of days now, I guess it's time for a replacement.

I guess it depends on how well you've glued it on.
Get an iPhone 5. Go on, you know you want to. You won't know yourself
