mobile dilemma - would appreciate your thoughts
ok, so i had a Pebble Blue Galaxy S3 which i managed to drop down stairs over a week ago and it shattered the screen. luckily i'm insured for accidental damage so I made a claim.
everything has been accepted, they've got the phone and assessed that it's beyond repair so they're going to send me a new replacement. however .. They tell me Pebble Blue Galaxy S3 has, apparently, been officially discontinued so they're looking at sending me a white one, although on Amazon and Argos, the Pebble Blue is still available. I really don't want a white one for a number of reasons. They've suggested it's possible I can reject this model and they'd look at a different phone to the same value, but that's not absolutely confirmed as it stands. So I've got a dilemma and i'd appreciate your thoughts if you were in the same position. I'm not looking for an Android -v- iOS war or anything like that, just what you'd do in a similar situation. I'm probably looking at this in a "Deal or No Deal" type situation where they ask the contestants if they'd "Deal" or not and base their decision on the majority viewpoint ![]() Would you accept a replacement phone if it was something you really didn't want, or would you see if you could get something else ? I accept this thread is probably daft, and largely gibberish, but I'm terrible at making decisions like this, so would appreciate some nudging .. |

I regretted having a white iPhone and went back to black next time. No matter how fastidious you are, they always end up looking dirty. One of my friends has got the Galaxy Note 2. Would that be acceptable, I think they do it in grey. |

Firstly, I find it hard to believe that the pebble blue variant has been discontinued already. If I was in the same position I would wait and see what else they could offer me and if I didn't like any of them I would accept the white version and sell it, then buy a blue one.
EDIT: The brown or black Galaxy S3 is nice. |

#edit Just rang back for some clarification. They can't get into their system at the moment, which is a pain, but the person I spoke to said it may well be down to the fact that their supplier only stocks the White S3. He explained that insurance companies really don't like to give out vouchers or cash with regards to mobile phones, which I can fully understand. He was actually quite knowledgeable on mobiles, which helped, because he did say he knew that the Pebble Blue and Black were still widely available. He's going to look in to it today and see what's going on and let me know, so now I can nick off out at last ![]() Thanks for the replies so far! |

I believe that T-Mobile/EE only bought a fixed number of the blue S3. The fact that there's still some stock in some dealerships doesn't mean the insurers can get one. T-Mobile phased out the standard 3-g version in favour of the LTE Version compatible with 4G, and only acquired White and Titanium-why not see if your insurers can get you a Titanium one? (I have a Note 2 in Titanium and think it looks superb)

I agree with that, the Titanium version is awesome looking.
![]() Just had a look and it's very sexy ! I shall certainly drop some major hints along those lines when I speak to them later. |

Who is your mobile phone operator? As I believe Titanium Grey is only in the LTE ready version on EE/Orange/T-Mobile although I could be wrong!

if its still commercially available like you say, I'd offer to the insurance company that you will obtain a like for like replacement and bill them for the cost. The only reason they want you to take an alternative (and, IYHO inferior) option is that the suppliers they use are offering them a good price.

Well i've just spoken to the insurance company directly and they've told me they haven't actually received the repair report back from the repairers, even though I spoke to them directly this morning and was told the situation, which is a bit daft.
He said I need to wait another couple of days for them to receive this report and then they'll have a better idea of what they can offer me - he did say a cash settlement certainly could be possible, but he couldn't say with absolute certainty. Another option would be a handset of a similar specification as well, so I suppose it could feasibly one of the LG or HTC Quad Core phones, since my one is an S3. We'll have to wait and see though I suppose. Thankyou for all the replies nice DS people

Seeing as Virgin are a MNVO using EE's network for coverage maybe you could ask if it's a possibility?
It would actually be nice If I could get the cash so I could see if I could stretch it out to get a 32gb S3 - my one was 16gb, so the extra space would be nice. |

I will do. I'm going to push for a cash settlement so I can buy a handset, so I might be able to get one like that.

The S3 has a memory card slot, just stick a 64gb memory card into the 16gb. Then you have a total of 80Gb of space.
![]() actually, just out of interest, if the worst comes to the worst and i'm lumbred with an iPhone, can anyone tell me if you can skip the music tracks while playing them ? On the S3, I had it set so that I could use the volume rocker controls on the side of the phone to skip to the next playing track and it was very, very handy and a feature i'd certainly look for. I suspect it's something i'd find in Cydia, but I wouldn't really be looking to Jailbreak anything unless absolutely necessary. Cheers

I already have a 64gb Micro SD card. The extra 16gb would be on-board memory for apps 'n 'ting

Hi Jason I have the iPhone 5 and you can skip tracks via the music player on iPhones you also get access to iTunes Store from the handset and can download songs on the go hope this helps.
![]() I got so used to just being able to stick my hand in my coat pocket and skip the tracks that I was listening to without having to get the handset out, unlock it, swipe the screen e.t.c.. I suppose it's a by-product of having over 8,500 songs stored on your phone

Just spoken to them and they've formally agreed to a cash settlement of £397, based on the price of a 16gb Pebble Blue S3 on Amazon. They didn't say if it's going to be a cheque made directly payable to Amazon or one payable to me though so I guess i'll have to wait and see.
I could get an unlocked 32gb Model from CEX for only £3 extra quid though (albeit a 'C' grade..) .. hhmmmm

Thankyou. I don't like the Note as I think it's far, far too big and I think i'd be too paranoid to get it out on the bus to fart around with it for 5 minutes if i'm on a long journey (as I do a lot of the time).
I did just edit my OP to mention that the Pebble Blue is still available on Amazon and Argos, so I don't see why they're telling me I can't have one - the issue might be the price I told them it cost me, because when I made the claim, I told them up front it was second hand from CEX and cost me £380 quid. This is what i'm thinking if I have no other choice. Obviously I'd take a black one in a heartbeat, but I do think this issue is all down to the original price of the handset. #edit Just rang back for some clarification. MUFFS and damn them all to hell ![]() ![]() I might even do what I did originally and buy a locked S3 and unlock it myself. I could get one locked to T-Mobile for £300 quid from CEX, so i'd have £97 quid left over. |
