You'll most likely have to flash it with a custom rom, as i did.

The HTC One X+ may not be getting Keylimepie though, Infact rumour is only the S4 and Nexus 5 an motorola xphone will be getting the full version of Keylimepie. This is the problem with Android and if it does when will your carrier release he update?

Even worse some say only the Motorrola Xphone will get it on release with a 3 month lockout on all other handsets. Saying that Keylimepie (Android 5) probably won't release untill May.

I'm not too worried about that actually, as i'd probably look to the likes of XDA to see if anyone gets a custom rom up and running for it.

I've just had a cursory look at XDA and the One X+ does seem easily rootable and flashable, but, unlike the S3, it doesn't seem to be unlockable for free that I can see.

The difference in price, if i did want to get one from CEX, for the sake of argument, would actually be £50 quid. I could get a 64gb model locked to O2 for £325, but an unlocked one would be £375.

Well you seem informed and have done some research into the device so it seems the One X+ is ideal for you in both specs and price.

Also generally it's only about £20 to get a phone unlocked by the network, or look at this way 1 hour at work ,,, not the end of the world.

I was out today and popped into a CEX to have a proper play with the HTC One X and i really like it, so the One X+ obviously will be the same. The screen seems so much clearer and sharper than than the S3, even though the difference in pixels per inch is negligible - the S3 is 306 and the One X+ is 312.

I'm seriously torn now

Nice side by side comparison here between the S3 and One X+ if anyone is interested.

Still torn. The One X+ looks a lot nicer, but it's a bit of a faff to root it as you apparently have to unlock the bootloader first, and the custom rom flashing procedure is slightly different to the S3.

It's not unlockable for free at the moment as well.

The S3 is very easy to root and flashing roms is a doddle. It can also be unlocked for free very easily.

Price wise, a locked S3 is £300 quid. A locked One X+ is £325.

Hhhmmmmmm ....

What grade of repair are they though? I went to CEX when I got my S3 (From Amazon in the end) and they wanted £350 for an A grade!!!! and that's just a refurb or manufactured repair. C Grade is a damaged second hand phone repaired. I would never buy Anything other than A Grade. Especially at those prices!!

When I got my S3 originally, it was C Grade and locked to O2 and I honestly couldn't fault it. I know CEX will give something a C grade for the stupidest reasons, so I wonder if there was an errant scratch somewhere that I never saw.

The C Grades are currently going for £300 quid at the moment, which would leave me £97 quid from the cheque when it comes,

Rather annoyingly though, I'm also giving a degree of thought to the iPhone 4s now as well, mainly because my primary use for my handset is to listen to music so i'm wondering the iPod integration would be worth considering, especially if there's a notable jump in sound quality.

Did you get them to explain the grades to you? Obviously not. A grade is the best. Basically it's either been a floor model or just a demo maybe in a shop and has been manufacturer refurbished.

B grade is second hand owned and refurbished

C grade is a phone that has been damaged and repaired back to as near factory standard as possible.

I would never touch anything under A grade with my money. Especially at the prices CEX where charging. They wanted £335 for a B grade white S3!!!! When a brand new one was only £397 on Amazon!
And if you want better sound quality then a decent pair of hard phones will sort that out. All standard headphone are absolutely pap. I got some seinheiser ear buds to replace my iPod touch ones and the crappy Samsung ones that came with my phone and they are infinitely better straight away.

With the greatest of respect, I'm fully aware of the grading system in CEX and have been for many years.

Really I just sold my nexus 7 to them and they gave me an A grade for it. I'd had it for about a month and a half so it's second hand now but I still got an A grade.

Any "x" grade is second hand. Otherwise it'd be called brand new! Even an a grad has been used or out of the box or in a condition that isn't brand new.

I found the iphone 4S sound to be absolutely rubbish. I found the S3 to be better. The N4 sounds great as well.

Everyone has different tastes in sound. If you get an Android phone and dont like the sounds, grab another player from the market, PowerAmp for instance which has a superb equaliser on it.

Poweramp was my main player of choice on the S3 actually - I paid for the full version a couple of years ago.

I'm still undecided to be fair, even after that article i read. Paid the cheque into the bank today so I've still got a few more days to make up my mind.
