I wanted to buy on the High Street as I'd "just feel happier" - I'm fine with buying CD's, tickets and things online but for 500 pounds+ I'd prefer to see it and buy it from a person...

I was hoping Jessops (John Lewis) would do it as you get a 5 year guarantee but they tell me they don;t when they will be stocking it.

The cost is irrelevant as I'm going to pay for it on Barclaycard and then get Barclaycard to give me the difference between what I pay and the cheapest I can find on the 'net. One of my mates did this on a Home Cinema system and it seemed to go OK. Any comments?

As far as I am aware your local euronics centre will be able to source the PL1 for immediate delivery. Have you per chance read some of the trade reports on this t.v. I think What video & tv said something on the lines of - whilst this is not a bad t.v. most other manufacturers sets are better than this offering from Panasonic. Shame really because I think it looks quite handsome. The sonics are reputed to be pretty poor though.

Thanks Faust...

I'll check out the Euronics centre...

I've seen a few reviews and also comments on various newsgroups - most comments I have seen seem overwhelmingly positive, especialy about the picture quality.
I'll be hooking it up to a DD 5.1 system so I'm not too bothered about the onboard sound.

I was considering the Hitachi 530 something-or-other but the aesthetics of the Panasonic swung me that way (especially as it must be female-friendly to be allowed in the lounge! )

The set is available at Debenhams with a free 5 year warranty. Lionel, what is this price matching Barclaycard thing you're talking about?

thanks...

It's the Barclaycard price promise...

If you find your purchase cheaper within 90 days (inc on the internet), they will credit the difference to your account.

Details on their website.
