I've had bubble and squeak burgers for the last couple of days............they were right good.............

I've been trying 'new' green veg and some old green veg that i haven't had for years and one such was a savoy cabbage

well, I had cabbage for a few days then decided to vary it a bit so i boiled some spuds and cabbage, mashed it, let it cool and shaped it into burger shapes which i stored in the fridge.

My first lot i fried with bacon...........marvellous

Today i had them fried in olive oil..........also marvellous

Maybe because i'd put them in the fridge they were pretty solid and retained their shape in the pan.......I didn't use any binding agent like egg or flour

Anyone else like bubble and squeak ?

Anyone got any other ideas for using up cabbage ?.........

Savoy cabbage is definately my favourite of the new veg I've tried along with broccoli which i don't think I'd ever eaten until a couple of months ago

Not so keen on sprouts or asparagus.

I don't tend to make burgers/cakes out of it. More of a full frying pan.

Also don't use greens such as cabbage, brocolli or sprouts, although Xmas was an exception for the latter.
Usually the only green is marrorfat peas and mint sauce.

Another also, is that I slop everything in, including meat and yorkshires.
My mam called a gypsy fry and if you add extra gravy it becomes dinner soup.

Not so keen on sprouts or asparagus.
Try doing something other than boiling your sprouts.
You can shred them and pop them in the over with a some garlic, or do what I did last night, cup them in half and griddle them in a little oil and lemongrass

I do not make B&S from left overs, don't ever have any, but from scratch. I use Tesco cabbage medley, onion and grated fresh Parmesan together with the ubiquitous mash and seasoning (black pepper and Marigold buillion powder). When it has been mixed I put it in a loose bottomed cake tin, invert it and turn it out onto a baking sheet, sprinkle with grated cheese and bake in a hot oven. It is served with fried eggs on top. Yum!

I have B&S a lot in winter. I tend to have it with sprouts and mash, and instead of making cakes I just fry it up over the whole of the frying pan.

I love it with left over turkey at christmas time. I also have it with a pork chop or sausages.

I could just eat it now.
