Yes, it will just be like using a standard Freeview+ box that has no catchup/on demand services.

Hello

I have read this thread with great interest, is it possible to record the programs without a subscription? unlike Sly which needs a subs.

thanks

Ok...

I have a Huawei talk talk youview box, without any subscription to talk talk and its quite happily running on my Sky broadband - what I get is basically the standard services of a Freeview+ HD PVR, and ALSO...
BBC Iplayer, ITV Player, 4OD, Demand 5, NowTV, Milkshake, Sky Store, UKTV player and S4/C on demand

All of these services work perfectly as well I would add! so in my opinion the £30 I paid on gumtree for my brand new unused youview box was very well worth buying!!!

Yes.

ALL Freeview+/+HD PVRs, YouView PVRs and also Freesat+/+HD PVRs can record programmes without paying anything extra.

With YouView, if you buy a YouView PVR but don't have BT or Talk Talk TV packages then the box just acts as a normal YouView PVR. You wont see the Talk Talk or BT extras in the menus at all. You can still record as normal, and you can still scroll through the EPG to play catchup content, and also access more catchup content through the catchup apps themselves.

With talk talk putting their prices up and with me coming off the one year 10.50 promotion my monthly fee will be 18.50 for plus without any add ons.
It says I've got 30 days to change or cancel.
Does anyone know what exactly it is that i'm paying for by subscribing to plus tv, or for that matter essential tv . If I am allowed to downgrade, which I should be able to, what exactly would i lose?
From what I've read the box works with catch up and records regardless of which company it's connected to so I can't for the life of me see what it is I'm paying for.

From what I can see you aren't paying for anything TV related maybe just a calls package which is bundled in with the price ?. Subscribing gives you the privilege of being able to pay extra for bolt on's should you want them. Essentially you are being charged to have the TT platform in a similar way to Sky.

I've got a TT YouView+ box off a well known auction site connected to PlusNet and I can use the Full PVR functions including all the free catchup services such as iPlayer, ITV player etc.

If it was me I would investigate downgrading to Essentials (£3.50 a month now) and then add on the phone packages you really need (maybe anytime calls at £5.50 a month).

I suspect that they won't want you to downgrade however and may offer you a deal in the hope that you will use the TV bolt on's in the future...

Thanks for your reply. Apparently Plus now get Sky 1, living etc, although when i try to use them it says these aren't set up.
Also i notice there's a talk talk player button, which I'd never used, it leads you to pay per view content so I forgot about that.
I'm assuming that's all the tv gives us extra... and the ability to add on packages.
I never use the phone but you have to have a phone line, which i pay a year in advance (also going up by £15 a year. from end of April)
I'll ring when I'm in a better frame of mind and try to get them to downgrade . I really can not afford it especially if i don't use it.

Ah - I missed that TV Starter Boost is now included with Plus package

So you get Sky 1, Sky 2, Sky Arts 1, Sky Arts 2, Sky Living, Sky Living and Sky Sports News.

Still pretty poor value IMHO - 7 channels for £9.50 per month once you've paid for the box though the initial subscription. I'm sure lots of people must be noticing this and downgrading to SimplyBroadband and just keeping the box.

I just unsubscribed from the tv package and have the box doing nowt right now.
It's the Youview Huawei box.

Is there anything I can use it for as it stands?
I know I can get Freeview on it but to be honest I don't need that.
Can the software be altered to receive any satellite channels?
I guess it'll have a useful hard drive so is that OK to use as a backup in a case for a USB drive on my computer.

Anything else you can suggest doing with it.
I know..... I've already thought of letting the kids at it with a screwdriver.

Yes, but it will only receive and record the Freeview channels. Obviously.
