DVD v Netflix on PS3

I was wondering which method of viewing a modern TV show like House, 24 or Lost in terms of picture quality as I want to see if it is better to stick with the Lovefilm DVDs when no Blu-rays are available or stream them on Netflix for HD.

I watched Souce code on Lovefilm instant via PS3 (Old big one) and I felt it was below DVD quality but maybe that film is not in HD. Also when watching The guard via the laptop it did seem better quality. So would Netfilx be much better via PS3 in terms of picture quality?

I was thinking the PS3 may upscale the DVDs but when I watched the Godfather it was ropey to say the least but maybe thats because it's an old film or just a bad copy?

I know Netflix are starting this new Super HD thing but don't know if I would be able to get it in the UK.

Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated .

With Netflix the quality will always depend on what your watching, but I find the quality pretty good for what I watch and that's using a Wii.
SuperHD is dependent on your ISP so check this link to see if yours supports it: https://signup.netflix.com/superhd

Netflix has a perfect picture quality. HD is great, SD is really good (for SD I mean...).

Also, the PS3 is to me, not the greatest device for Netflix. I've used it a lot when I subscribed to Netflix 3 years ago, and the thing I really didn't like is the fact that it takes time to adjust the quality after you launched a movie/show. So first the quality will be crappy, then it gets better and then it can go up to HD. For some reasons, it can take time to reach the HD quality and sometimes, it can downgrade the quality in the middle of what you're watching.
The quality adjustment is so much faster on the AppleTV, and I don't recall the last time I saw a downgrade of quality during a movie.

That said, Netflix PQ is great and shows like 24 & Lost are available on Netflix UK
You should give it a try with the 30 days free trial, you'll see if it suits your needs.

Cheers!
