Question about Netflix via unblock us
StargateNerd_24

How can you use your British credit\debit card to sign up to netflix USA?

I would have thought you would have to have a US card to sign up to US company.

Or do you sign up to the UK one first then get Unblock us to let you see other regions from your UK account? But surely they must know your account is registered in the UK so you shouldn't be watching stuff from the US Netflix.

Or am I missing something?

Sign up to the UK. Go to the Unblock US site and register there for free for 7 days. Then pay $4 pm if you want the service.

From the Unblock US site you can choose the region you want.

Netflix know exactly what is going on and don't give two hoots.

I am considering cancelling my Unblock US sub as my IP address according to the site is constantly changing. This then causes problems with my Ipad, AppleTV, Panasonic TV and other items as Netflix will fail to load until you log back into Unblock US and refresh your IP address. It's a RPITA, I pay the $4 pm so I can watch the stuff without this problem. Tried to look on their help and can't find much about it other than put up with it. Also via Unblock US my Panasonic TV cannot pick up the SUPER HD titles, but via normal UK Netflix it can. Rant Over

Unblock-Us allows you to pay by PayPal.

I would recommend Overplay SmartDNS for Nextflix USA. I also use it for ADMC Sport & Al Jazeera.

Hi!

To your first question I would answer: you have to try to see if it works. I have a French debit card, Netflix has no problem with it. It really depends of the website itself, if I don't have any issue it will probably work for you too.

About Unblock-Us, it will allows you to watch the different Netflix regions either you subscribe to the US Netflix or the UK Netflix. Since Netflix is available in your region, I will suggest you to subscribe to Netflix UK, then to use Unblock-Us to switch to the different regions. And yes, Netflix is aware of this, just like they know that many people are using Netflix outside the US (I mean in countries where Netflix isn't available), but they don't really care. They earn money...so...

Like Gonzo said, you can pay Unblock-Us via PayPal, the 7 days trial doesn't require any debit card or PayPal information. I've been using their service for 3 years now (since I subscribed to Netflix) and to me, it's the #1 DNS service. They also just announced that they're now supporting SuperHD for those who have an ISP that is not supposed to support SuperHD.

Cheers!

I expect the UK companies who have paid the studios for the pre-Netflix UK rights, aren't so happy!!

I suppose it depends how many people are actually doing what we are talking about. Look at it this way,the main competitors that might have paid for exclusive UK rights are Lovefilm and Sky. Both would probably look very petty for complaining especially Sky who recently survived a competition commission inquiry in to their anti competitive exclusive deals.

What you are experiencing is a problem with your ISP and not Unblock-US. Where I live in Germany, all ISP's change your external IP address daily, so yours is the first I have heard that does this in the UK. You could change your ISP to one that doesn't do this, or maybe your ISP has an extra service including static IP - though at an extra cost.

I use Overplay which also has this, but Overplay gave me a great bit of code to put in my NAS so that it automatically updates each time my IP address changes via a script. This means I never have to manually do it. If you have a small computer, like a NAS, highly configurable router or media center on 24/7, this could work with you. Likewise, there are others ways to partially automate it.

Once I set this up, it really changes things as you never have to think about it.

From what I understand, Overplay offer all the same SmartDNS services that Unblock-US do at about the same price, including Netflix regions and all the other on-demand places. But I think they also offer a few more on-demand, though it's hard to tell as both sites keep adding new ones.

That's because you have a Dynamic IP address, if you have a Smartphone open this link and save it to HomeScreen or bookmark http://m.unblock-us.com/
It only takes a few seconda to check befoew you open Netflix. Works same way on both iPhone and Android, open up, it checks service and if IP address has changed just select update. You also have the region selector at hand too.

My IP Address with BT has stayed constant for the last 6 Months. I have never needed to reboot my Infinity modem and the IP address reported in the system admin ( not my internal address) has always been the same.

But for some reason you could be happily watching on Apple TV and then it will say Netflix is unavailble. I go to the Unblock US website and it says my IP address has changed. I check my system admin on my router it's the same old IP address. I update the screen on Unblock US. Run netflix on apple TV and bingo it works.

10 Mins later I try on my iPad, netflix not available, rinse and repeat.

BT use Dynamic IP addresses.
Here's just one quote from BT community forums
Quote:
“The BT dynamic IP is certainly that, every time you get a disconnect a new IP is assigned.”

Noted and understood.

So my reported IP address in my router is not my actual IP address then, and it can change whenever it feels like it according to Unblock US.

Correct, I believe it has something to do with DHCP within the router as it assigns an address to each of your devices.
Quote:
“The software that comes with a router allows for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) setup and assigns each computer attached to the router an IP address automatically.”

If your router supports dyndns you can set this up to avoid repeatedly having to go on their site to hit check service.

I use the below details, they're not listed on unblock us anymore for some reason, but still work very well.
