Hi guys, I've been following a gluten-free diet since my coeliac nephew & nieces came to stay recently, I have felt tons better, loads of energy and lost quite a bit of weight. (As far as I know I dont have any food intolerance or anything - just a choice)

So today I just could not resist and had a big tuna pasta meal - I thought what harm can it do..? No exaggeration I look about 8 months pregnant - I only weigh 9stone . Unbelievable bloating and tummy pains.

I have tried the free-from range and organic veg pasta twirls (made from spinach & rice flour) but they taste rank.

Does anyone know a good alternative?

(I can cope with no bread / cakes / biscuits etc - but I'll be devastated if I can't find a good pasta substitute)

you could make your own with gluten free flour.

edit: have you tried any from this range?

Tesco Free From GF pasta, it's available in Penne, spaghetti and spirals. If you can find it Dr Schar pasta is also very good.
Some GF pastas can been very "unforgiving" if overcooked and go mushy and slimy so beware!

Noooo...I know. I love making pasta - with normal flour. Gluten free flour is an absolute bastard to work with. I still weep gently at the memory of trying to make simple short crust tartlet cases with it. Turning it into pasta makes me... ------->

Hahah, thanks you lot made me laugh. I have tried the tesco free-from pasta but maybe I am cooking it too long or something - I still cant get it to taste nice

ok - anette I will try and make some myself - I have rice flour or the general 'white mix' prescribed by doc - will give that a go and report back

thanks for replies

use strong bread flour not ordinary, it`s a piece of piss, no harder than making bread.

@vosne i never used gluten free flour but i`d imagine it doesn`t hold a lot of kneading minus gluten.

gluten free flour works much better with the addition of xantham gum, it behaves very closely to normal flour if you add some. You can get that from tesco too.
