Please could anyone explain why 02 keep taking £1 off my credit the moment l switch on the data packet even when my smart phone is still connected to my modem?

I have been away from home and couldn't be connected to a modem therefore l used up my allowance for the month and 02 have been charging me £1 a day for use of the internet.

I'm back home now but this morning l switch on the data packet while l was connected to my modem only to find that 02 have taken £1 off my credit. I can understand it if l have used the internet for a few minutes, but to charge me the very second l switched the data packet on, seems to be a bit unfair!

Does it cost £1 or more a day for the updates on my phone?

They are charging because your phone is using data. I guess you have a smartphone or feature phone but are on a tariff without a data bundle?

By modem, I guess you mean your home WiFi router ?

If you only use your phone on a router then the answer is, don't turn on mobile data, ever. You don't need it on if you are using wifi and of course your provider will charge you if you do turn it on.

I'm on a monthly tariff with unlimited internet but as l said in the original post l was away from home and couldn't connect with a modem/router therefore l exceeded the fair usage limit.

Yes, l meant home WiFi router.

I just turned the data packet on to see how much it would have cost me for a few minutes on the internet but l didn't even get the chance to use it when l was changed £1 for the day!

I had previously viewed the internet using the data packet switched on and was charged a few pence every time until l reached £1, then l received a message saying that l can go on the internet without further charge.
