Anyone cancelled with Three?

Hi guys

I cancelled my contract (early) with Three on Monday. It was stressful to say the least - took ages, which didn't surprise me as I'm used to their customer service by now....

Anyway I was told how much it would cost and I asked for my PAC code etc...

Today my new phone has switched to my old number. I'm with O2 now.

I'm wondering when I will actually pay the amount I had to pay to cancel with Three, but more importantly I'm worried they may not actually cancel my contract properly.

When your number ports across - is that it - surely it will automatically cancel now?

Thanks for any advice

There's a whole thread on the consumeractiongroup website

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...ancel-Contract

Seems like this is a serious issue.

Got a few months to run on my 15GB per month mobile broadband contract. I hope to cancel as I now live in a house with 20Mb broadband. I suppose it is not beyond the realms of sanity to expect that Three will do absolutely everything in their power to retain me even though I no longer need mobile broadband. . I'll also mail the SIM card back to them as well. Think I'll send them a recorded delivery notice of intent to cancel. That coupled with no direct debit in place (I pay online via card) then hopefully that will spare me the rigmarole. No doubt everything I just mentioned will be a waste of time. We'll see.

Thanks for the link - doesn't look promising. I spoke to o2 on online chat a few minutes ago. The assistant there said it should cancel automatically now as I have ported the number across - I sure hope so....

Good luck trying to cancel mate - I was on the phone to them for around 40 minutes. I was on hold for 20 minutes at one point - I swear they were doing it so they hoped I cut the call and didn't cancel.

Just hope the cancellation has gone through... Might send an email to confirm I've cancelled etc etc. Then if they take any more money from me I'll cancel the DD and if they moan I can point them to the email. We shall see...

Good luck yourself Max.

Its like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Don't worry, once you get your PAC then your old contract will be cancelled. Your Three phone should now be dead, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

Been there, done it numerous times with work and our contracts on all networks. Never had a problem with Three (same can't be said for Orange though).

It's taken me best part of 6 months to cancel a sim zero contract. Should go off on 13th Feb (we'll see).

Most painful experience of my life. Never ever again.

If you've used a PAC code then it should be cancelled as soon as the transfer completed. If you still had some of your 30 day notice to serve this will be reflected as an early termination charge on the final bill

My other half has recently cancelled a 3 account. She didn't need a PAC though so did it in writing by recorded delivery. A much less stressful process and she got a letter confirming cancellation from the date the letter was signed for about a week later. Although they didn't quite understand the part of the letter which stated not to call her and to dispense with retentions activity as any unsolicited calls would be considered an annoyance as they have tried (unsuccessfully) to ring her to discuss her cancellation a few times.

Is it actually cancelled?

Not yet. Due to cancel on 13th February and she has this in writing so they wont have a leg to stand on if it doesn't cancel. She also has proof of when they signed for the letter

I'll report back if I remember

Although as I said she has everything in writing and proof of the notice being served so really nothing *should* go wrong

Thats what I call a plan. The website is geared to direct contract holders to phone up so that they get routed to retentions. I will definitely go down the recorded delivery letter route. Possibly with a bit of any continuous attempts to sell me something I do not need will be treated as miss-selling and will be reported.

If you want to find out how to disconnect in the official route, just check the terms and conditions. Lots of companies accept cancellation over the phone but yet their terms state you must cancel in writing.

I terminated my Three contract early in November 2012.

By the end of the conversation I was practically suicidal, the gentleman on the other end of the phone may be doing his job but the customer service was dire!

He said (at the time) my contract would expire in 30 days time.... sure enough 30 days later and my SIM was disconnected.

A week later the payment (£144 to leave early) still hasn't left my account... has anyone had experience of when the payment left?

I'm guessing maybe I will have 1 more normal payment of the contract, and then the big boy payment a month after that - as you have to give 30 days notice?

Hi Dave,

Just called my Three number and its still live!!!

Technically they have up until 23:59 to cancel it, but if its still live tomorrow there is gonna be hell!!

Yours gone offline?

Funny thing is, I got a survey a few days ago about leaving etc...

As promised reporting back. Sending a letter recorded seems to have done the trick. Get number not recognised when I try to call it and no service if I put the sim in another phone so it looks pretty terminated. Just waiting on final bill now

EDIT - Also can't log in to my3 any more. Presumably they will post a final bill then

Looks like they've kept me live then... if I ring tomorrow and it's still live I'll just ask them for a PAC, port the number to a PAYG sim card then cut the fu*ker up.

... and if I get any more sh*t from them on the phone I'll report them to OFCOM.

Who are you moving to that's so much better?

Funny how how one person can't wait to leave them, and another can't be any happier with the service(me), I can count on one hand in the last 3 years where I've had to ring them. Didn't find them too bad either, sorted out any issues

Not everyone finds the same network the best for them, if that was the case there would only be one network in the uk...

Besides, I think plymouth bloke would rather be with EE

Correct, my main phone is with T-Mobile. The Three sim is a sim zero sim only (which has sent one text since 2008 - it was only taken out to check Three coverage and nothing more), so it costs £0 a month, however it's an open account, with a sim that could be anywhere in the house and it's an open account on my credit file.

Because it's a £0 a month contract I am finding it almost impossible to cancel it as retentions argument is that as it is a £0 a month contract I can just keep it running.

Plymouth change it to the cheapest monthly tariff and then give them notice?

That would he the worst thing to do as it'd cost him one month line rental.

Just get a pac code and port the number out. I find going into a physical store and asking the staff to speak to CS works best if I get nowhere with them

Only had to do this once to sort out an issue. 3cs has been fine for me apart from that.

If it is the only way without getting Ofcom involved. i'd do it!

PAC should work... but a quick google of continuing accounts shows it might not.

Looking at this thread, it looks like trying to leave 3 from a contract certainly isn't any easier than when I cancelled after the end of my contract this month 4 years ago. I remember ringing up looking to give 30 days notice and asking for my PAC number (to transfer to O2 PAYG) that I went through to retentions who to be fair gave me an offer but it was no better than one that was being offered to new customers when they gave me three hours to "think about it" so I politely declined it, said they had no more retention offers for me (probably because I spent nearly half the contract outside the UK on "3 like home"!) and so they sent me by PAC code by text later that day and by letter in another couple of days.

As for their CS, I had to call them up a number of times and other than getting an unlock code for my handset, it wasn't the greatest of experiences. I noticed for two months in a row that some "3 Like Home" calls were attributed and charged outside of my bundle at roaming rates. A phone call the first month and an email sorted that out as credit on the next bill.
