Hey all! So once again, I couldn't find a thread so I decided to make one just like I did with TBBT. So How I Met Your Mother returned to E4 today for it's eighth season. What did you think of the first episode? Personally, I thought it wasn't bad, lacked in some parts but it was alright. While there were a few good moments, I got a bit bored with the last season so I hope this will be an improvement.

I take it most of you have already heard the news about the ninth season.

I wondered if there was a thread on this! Are we the only 2 watching?? I'm not loving the new series at all, too much change and after I watch an episode, I instantly forget what happened. Also though they ditched Quinn a bit quickly, Victoria and her ex German fiancÚ are annoying as hell and Lily and Marshall (and Lily's Dad) are ridiculous!

BIB - So far, yes but I hope other users come on soon.

The new series so far has been a mxied bag for me. I also agree with you about Quinn leaving early. I really thought we were gonna see a bit more of her but I guess not. I also agree with you about Klaus, I find him really annoying too.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread!

The new series hasn't been as laugh out loud as past ones, but it's still worth the watch for some great moments. I have to go against the tide here and say that Klaus had me in stitches. I'm not a fan of Victoria, though.

No worries, it's a very small tide at the moment, you may well be right

HIMYM hasnt been good for the past 3 years now I think I'm only watching due to familiarity plus I do like Barney's character.

It's good that season 9 will be the last I just hope that they tie off everything properly and possibly have some joke at the end using his kids in 2030 making a big deal about how long it took him to tell the story

I'm not loving the new series, is Ted now telling a story within a story?
It's kinda annoying to have to now watch how Barney and Robin get together AGAIN. And I think it's safe to say the mother isn't Victoria because the story would've ended the first time he met her haha so I can't be bothered watching how his relationship with her pans out either. But as a I like to have something to moan about I probably will still watch it and hope it picks up

She isn't, in the last episode future Ted said they'd break up within the month.

I know - I don't get them as a couple, how could anyone that has watched Barney be, well, Barney ever see him as husband material? He's probably riddled for a start And they were a terrible couple first time round! I thought Ted and Robins relationship was much more realistic, I still have ridiculous hopes that she is the mother - even though I know she can't be!

it was a nice touch to bring victoria back but yeh she wont be the mother

robin and barney are kind of suited to each other personality wise imo, we all want him to settle down by the end of it dont we?

marshall needs more screen time

im enjoying season 8

Totally agree. Ted and Robin are made for each other. It seems the only people who can't see this are the writers themselves! And the idea of Barney ever "settling down" is completely unrealistic. It goes right against his foremost personality trait as a womaniser with a fear of commitment.

Yep - they haven't made me invest in them as couple at all - and now have one season to turn this around! Boo!

I'd be mortified if my Dad sat me down and told me stories of his and his friends sexual exploits...

It'd be a real slap in the face if it's revealed at the end that the kid's were adopted.

I think Robin and Ted ending up together would be wrong at this point, they've done all they are going to do. Having Robin and Barney "settle down" as much as it pains me to say it, kinda makes sense. Robin has to get married and live happily ever after because she is a woman but she's not like Lily (or Monica from friends) who's dreamed of a fairy tale wedding with her dream knight in shining armour. So give her to Barney who is the opposite of all that, he's the only one who can tame her and vice versa... Or some crap like that. I don't know what to think of it really. But I wish they'd get on with it.
Putting her with Ted would mean her changing who she is (like Chandler in Friends) or Ted giving up on his dreams , which we know doesn't happen unless his kids are imaginary too!

Agreed. I never liked Barney and Robin as a couple. Although, I have to admit, I was actually warming up to Quinn a bit...

I sort of couldn't wait it for it to end at some points, it was pretty dire! I hope it picks up as I love the show but it just feels like they're treading water now. Marshall and his game show voice were annoying, as was Lily and her fake crying. Robin, ted and barney have become caricatures of themselves now, Robin particularly, when did she become so masculine and gung-ho? Ted is wetter than ever and barney is so pervy that its not funny anymore. Must try harder.

Robin has been masculine and gung-ho for quite a while. She was smoking cigars back in s1ep14, for example.

Although the current season is nowhere near as good as it used to be, it's still a bit better than the previous one.

Yea I really wasn't impressed.
Lily and Marshal moaning about how busy they are but they have time for a stupid pretend game show.... why didn't they just have each of them jump over a shark and be done with it.
Lily needed a slap.
Robin and her daddy issues YAWN.
Barney likes boobs and is so desperate to see them he comes up with stupid schemes.
Ted is actually the least offensive person now, but tell the story faster Ted!!!

I must be in a minority but I thought Thursday's episode was great. Probably, the worst episode of the season so far, but still hilarious!

Did Victoria not watch Friends then? (the HIMYM writers obviously do!) - on Friends Emily told Ross to dump Rachel as a friend, he chose Rachel over her. Victoria told Ted to ditch Robin - he chose Robin. Let's have some originality please! Other than that I did enjoy last night's episode, apart from any scenes that Lily and Marshall were in, I didn't think Marshall could get any more annoying but he's gone and done it! Shame, I liked him a lot at the start. I wish they'd stop teasing us over Ted and Robin.

Yeah was howling in my mind "Emily Emily Emily!" Oh well bye bye Victoria. Marshal "oh no you di-int" or whatever he was meant to be saying was painful. He looks tired.
Barney and the dog, it was cute but lacking something.
