RTD stated at the end of 2011 that he would be putting all of his work on hold to enable him to return to the UK to look after his partner who was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
So without RTD working (in the States or here in the UK) Torchwood will not progress. |

Starz have said they're willing to make more if Russell is but that it completely relies on him. Russell said he had an idea (but not that he would necessarily go ahead with it) but with his partners condition and then Wizards Vs Aliens, he's been quite busy. Plus of course Miracle Day wasnt too popular. John and Eve have both said they'd make more, and Eve has suggested one last run (whether it be a series or a movie) should be done to give fans closure.
It's not cancelled, but there are no plans for it to return. |

Miracle Day was a bit of a muddle at times, though there were some very clever ideas at work, but Children Of Earth was one of the finest, bravest, most engrossing series I've ever watched.
If Torchwood could return with something of that quality then I'd be delighted. |

I doubt it somehow.
Maybe as a special to tie up some loose ends but I think Torchwood is effectively dead to be honest. |

I am hoping every day that there will be an announcement that Torchwood has been brought back for another series but at the minute, it is doubtful. A lot of people got turned off by Miracle day though, I personally thought it was amazing and I would definitely watch another series with no problems.

If it's anything like the abomination that was Miracle Day then they shouldn't bother. If however they can give us one final series for closure and it's of a quality close to Children Of Earth then I would certainly be open to it, as would many others I imagine.

I don't think RTD is in any rush to pick Torchwood back up. Shame. |

I don't think that the problem was solely with the Miracle Day format, there is no reason as to why one storyline can't go on for ten hours. The problem was that the entire show had been slowly destroyed beyond repair over the second and third series.
Killing off 3 of the main characters might have made sense in the storyline (Although why it was felt necessary to kill off Tosh is a mystery) it did mean that the entire team had become two people. The way in which characters were introduced in Miracle Day was very sudden, not helped by the fact that I personally found them unlikable. The destruction of the hub once again made sense in the context of the storyline. It certainly made CoE more powerful as the sense that Torchwood felt like it had been completely destroyed made the successes miore triumphant. However as of Miracle Day the fact that over half of the team had been killed and the main location had been destroyed meant that it just didn't feel like Torchwood anymore. Miracle Day realised this and tried to make it even more different than it had been already. Personally I hope that it doesn't come back. The Torchwood that I loved (Series 1 - 3) is no more and I doubt they will make any attempt to restore it to that way. I enjoyed Miracle Day for what it was, but it just was not Torchwood anymore. Up until MD it was still believable as a Doctor Who spin off, but I don't think it is any more. |

John Barrowman told me in May last year that he didn't know what was going to happen concerning the show.

John Barrowman was on This Morning a few months ago to promote his new Torchwood book Exodus Code and he said that if Torchwood would come back for another series then the show will use the plot from this book.

But the comments from RTD regarding quitting the States are a matter of public record (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-16041018), so if you want to query what he said then you are free to do so. |

How could he know that, if Torchwood ever came back, it will use his book? Surely the most he could say is that it could use the plot of his book?

Unless RTD comes back eager to produce another series I get the feeling that the BBC/Starz are happy enough to leave it be. Miracle Day wasn't exactly a blazing success and personally speaking if another series of Torchwood meant more stuff like "Miracle Day" I'd rather it be left alone.

Got to admit, much as I love TW and John Barrowman/ Eve Myles, Miracle Day was a disappointment. The magnificent Children of Earth would have been hard to follow whatever the case but, other posters are right IMO. Much-loved characters were killed off too early in the development of TW. It's shocking if done once but it just kept happening and lost some of its impact. Miracle Day was all over the place and the eventual denouement was just silly.
