Intermittent dial tone

Over the past few days, I've noticed when I've been going to phone someone, my dial tone has a little pause every couple of seconds as though I have a voicemail 1571 message. I dialed 1571 but have no messages, yet still get this dial tone.

Any ideas what it could be? This is with Sky Talk

Could be they have simply failed to clear the voicemail alert. Or a call went to voicemail but no message was left but the alert was established.

What you could try is call your landline from a mobile, let it go to voice mail and leave a short message to yourself. Then go in and retrieve this message and see if that clears down the dial tone.

Could it be a divert instead? e.g. your phone line is diverted to another number?
