The Sweeney Blu Ray
Don't know if anybody else who has this film on Blu ray is suffering the same problem as us???
The film loads perfectly ok and plays perfectly well until it gets to about 1 minute into chapter 19 and then my player drops the sound and a few seconds later the picture freezes. Doesn't matter how many times I try to watch this chapter, it freezes in EXACTLY the same place. I ran a lens cleaning disc through the player just to be on the safe side and have updated the firmware (on the recommendation of LG) but it still does it. In desperation, my wife went out and exchanged the disc with a brand new copy, still sealed in the box. Put that one in, went to chapter 19 and it STILL froze in exactly the same place. Any ideas (other than throw the blooming thing in the bin)????? |

Have a look on he disk surface. Can you see any sign of a defect on the disk? The playing side should appear a uniform silver. If there is a visible line part way towards the edge of the disk then that could be where the player is freezing.
Another alternative is there is some gunge on the laser guide rails preventing the laser moving all the way to the edge of teh disk. Though if that were the case it should affect other disks as well. Also if it's a dual layer disk it could be freezing at the point it changes layers, which need not be half way through the film depending on how much extra content there is on the disk. If you don't get the same thing happening on other disks then that suggests some sort of problem with that disk. |

Thanks for your reply Chris. I have checked both discs to make sure there was no defect on them. I checked the first one particularly carefully as this was the one the wife took back to the store to change on the basis that it was "faulty" and I didn't want them to think we were pulling a fast one.
The replacement was brand new, sealed box, and I double checked it before playing. No marks at all. It just seems strange why it is sticking in exactly the same place on both discs! I have a couple of other discs that this happens with as well. I must have over 100 blu rays in my collection and the rest of them play perfectly well. After trying the new copy of The Sweeney, we went on to watch The Bourne Legacy and Jaws, both on blu ray, and both films played without a hitch so my player appears to be capable of reading discs ok. I mentioned above that I have updated the firmware for my player via a link on the LG website, but having spoken to their tech department they are burning an update disc themselves and sending it out to me just in case my update didn't work properly (although the player said it had updated successfully). |

Having said that, the other "faulty" discs played perfectly well on that, so I guess the Sweeney one would to. Which indicates to me that it is a fault with the player not the disc....but why does it play 99% of my discs perfectly well but not the four I've mentioned???? Weird. Thanks for the reply by the way |
