Streaming Radio via the BBC

I have just reinstalled Windows 7 last week and have now tried to listed to some BBC stations via the website but when I click on listen live it is asking me to open a .pls file.
That's never happened before as it used to open it its player in firefox.

Clicking on Listen should open a pop-up window with the player in it.

Have you got a pop-up blocker installed that's stopping this?

I could not see pop up blocker options in Firefox (I was looking under Tools).
When I click on listen live it does try to open a new window (the player) but closes straight away and then the message appears.

Since you have reinstalled your OS you probably need to set the file associations so that when you click on a .pls file in Firefox it launches (and plays in) a suitable player whether that be embedded or standalone. Often when you install a player it will set those file associations for you automatically which is probably why it was working before.

Forget trying to listen using iplayer or radio player
Use Tapinradio player
It comes with loads of stations pre installed like BBC National & local or add urls for yourself

In Firefox go to Tools>Options>Content but I have it set to block popups but BBC radio on iPlayer works OK.

Also have a look in Tools>Add-ons>Extensions in case there's anything there (unlikely) causing the problem

I had a look at the add ons but there is nothing causing the issue. I only have facebook, ebay and WOT add ons, the ones I had before I reinstalled and when it seemed to work fine.

When you select and click on Open With>Browse what options are available?
There should be an option to choose and set a default program

Nothing that works. I have the option of media centre,IE or windows media player. None of them can play the .pls file.

Whats bugging me is that it worked fine before I reinstalled Windows.

IE has a different version of flash than other browsers.

Backup your firefox profile then completely uninstall firefox deleting the profile folder, then re-install firefox. Something in firefox or it's profile sounds like it may be dodgy

Just uninstalled then reinstalled. Same problem.
Going to just have to accept this issue, it may fix itself in the future.
I have downloaded tapinradio so will make do with that.

Thanks for all the advice though everyone.

.pls explained here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileex...f/pls-file.htm

OP when you select 'Open with' it may only show media centre,IE or windows media player but you are also offered to browse for suitable programs on the PC
VLC/iTunes/RealPlayer/Media Player Classic (and many others) will all handle .pls files

You could try the Firefox beta as this is what I'm running and it works fine.
