It seems broadband customers who can't receive Infinity (through no fault of their own) will have to pay for a TV package to get the free BT Sport on their TV:

“As long as you have BT Broadband and a BT TV package, you'll be able to watch BT Sport on your TV via your TV aerial (£10 viewing card and BT Vision+ box required).1 We'll be ready before the start of the live Barclays Premier League, so you won't miss a kick!”

I have just had a reply from BT's Program Strategy Manager via twitter and he comfirmed both MLB and collage sports would be available on new setup.

I know it's just one mans reply but still sounds promising.

Looks like I can nearly halve my TV sports subscription for the £49 cost of getting Youview with BT.”

Fingers crossed that BT gets access to Sky Sports on YouView.

Hull City have won promotion to the Premier League - if BT get to cover their games, there will be outrage as we are not allowed BT in Hull

Despite living approx 70 meters from a telephone exchange its not in rollout plans for fibre, that coupled with the fact that I dont have a house aerial means that BT will not be an option, probably ever... Im sure im not the only one in this sort of position...

Id love to know what BT's marketing team were smoking when they thought that giving it to BB customers for free would start enticing them away from other platforms... some people like me just dont have BT as a realistic option!

ESPN is, however, being referenced as the channel that the FA Cup will be broadcast on:

FA Cup with Budweiser on ESPN

Could this be something to do with the sponsor, perhaps, rather than the tv rights?

The above quote does not say you will need to pay for a TV package in these circumstances.

Just to say guys, now that it's calmed down a tad, many thanks for making this a superb thread today. It's made for great reading.

I'm sure most of you have more important things to be doing - work, family and the like - but great contributions all round.

Was about to sign up, seems if you're doing it via your Sky setup then you start a new 12 month contract for some bizarre reason. Is that 12 months on top of your current remaining months on your current contract?

I agree with that suggestion though I think it has to be careful not to claim ESPN content as its own as the takeover has not yet occurred.

Is that through choice or is it unavoidable?

I wonder what the official BT stance on things is now. At first it was BT Sport 1 as the main channel with BT Sport 2 being the 'overflow' channel for clashes etc. IF they're still planning to use that formula, it would make absolute sense to fully utilise ESPN with some primary content and have that as their real 2nd channel? They won't have kept the brand to just let it waste away.

I think it's worth a little recap at this point, seeing as we've had so many pages today and some people may be popping by for the first time...

BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2 will launch on 1st August. At this point, ESPN will become part of the BT Sport family.

BT Sport will be available on the Sky Platform, BT TV, and online via the web and mobile application.

The BT Sport pack:
-Free on all available platofrms for BT Broadband (£10/month or greater) and BT Infinity customers
-£12/month for customers on other broadband providers
-The BT Sport pack in HD will cost £3/month extra, but will be free for 12 months if you sign up before 1st August
-No mention of Multiroom in today's announcement. As it stands, anybody wanting BT Sport on more than one Sky box will have to acquire a second *full* subscription. Whether BT adjust this isn't at all known.

The BT Sport pack is only available from BT themselves (i.e. if you want the pack on your Sky box, you go to BT and not Sky).

Have I missed anything?

From what I've read on this thread today, I believe this will replace whatever is remaining of your current contract JMTD

Personal opinion only -

I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. For the following reasons -

1. Cardinal.

Cardinal makes reference to the BT Vision application itself and not the hardware it is actually hosted on. References include Cardinal 1.0 (WinCE (Windows)), Cardinal 2.0 (Linux BT Vision 2.0) and Cardinal G2 (which I believe to be YouView).

2. Even if Sky tried to argue that Cardinal does not extend to YouView, BT could and would just apply to Ofcom for an extension to the original ruling. Much in the same way Real Digital did. And got a quick decision too.

3. Ofcom appear to be getting very P'd off with all the shenanigans that have been going on.

However, there may still be one reason to be worried -

BT may lose they're appeal to the appeal. In which case Sky could just stick two fingers up to everyone and just charge what they like. But I don't think they would withdraw it. Just make it very expensive.

But like I said, the above are just my thoughts...

Interesting times.

Your 12 month contract for BT Sports is with BT, not with Sky.

Your current Sky contract will remain as is, you will take out a separate contract with BT for BT Sport/ESPN

I think that this might be worth noting, however:

Each of the " 3 ways to watch" includes "Access to BT Sport online player and app" and the BT trailer via Sky indicates that you can stream the action free on as many devices as you want with 2 streams concurrently.

Does it? That's awesome. So much better than Sky's current offering.

Tis a shame they don't seem to be offering HD for their online player though - couldn't they use multicast for that also?

Ah I see. I've watched the promo now, too.

So, a 'multiroom' of sorts then. I guess that will satisfy the vast majority of those that take up BT Sport.

About that promo... The presenters really lift the script off the page, don't they?

Also, at what point do we get the 'fresh' and 'innovative' stuff?

I already have a contract with BT. About 16 months left on it. Which is why I was wondering if the 12 months adds on top of that or what. I don't really even understand why there's a need for a new 12 month contract if I've already got 16 months left on my current contract and certainly not so if it means I go from 16 to...12.

The promo on the channel states only BT broadband customers can stream online and on the app though ?
