ESPN appear to have secured a 'placeholder' presence in the UK just in case they ever decide they might have a chance of returning.

They are a major global player in sports so they save face quite a bit by appearing to still be in Europe via the UK.

Maybe one day Disney will buy BT, rename it all back to ESPN Sports and we will all end up with Mickey Mouse phones!

Yeah, Setanta did have exclusive rights to the SPL, and certainly at the start the only FTA highlights were on a Monday night so it was a pretty decent proposition for Scottish viewers - whereas now if you've got Sky you get half the SPL (the good half) plus Scotland and Scottish Cup matches, plus FTA highlights on a Sunday for the ESPN games, so it's less essential.

BT seriously don't need a sports news channel, Setanta Sports News was an appalling waste of everyone's time, there simply isn't enough sports news to go round. It wasn't even as good as the sports bulletins on News 24 and Sky News. It's of absolutely no value. The second Sky Sports News came back on Virgin was the exact second it was doomed.

I'd forgotten about Arsenal TV completely, yet I watched the opening press conference with Des Lynam, Arsene Wenger and Matt Lucas. Liverpool TV is still on of course but the others all disappeared. Celtic TV was used an an overflow if Setanta Sports 1 and 2 were full, I remember them showing some Gaelic sport on there once, and plugged it as being on Setanta Sports On Channel 438 or something.

Setanmta had some decent rights and I had it through its entire life, but it was always a channel I felt that was tolerated rather than liked, not least that ridiculous idea to unencrypt the build-up to matches and so constantly demanding you subscribe, which for people who did subscribe was intensely annoying, and plain bad manners. Especially that period where they had a "subscribe" DOG permanently burned into the picture.

Any official line from Virgin Media on this yet?
They include ESPN as part of their XL package, which I assume entices a large number of subscribers.
If BT Sport isn't included in the same, I can see Virgin Media losing a lot of subscriptions - especially in light of the recent price increases.

Yes the BT channels will be on Sky-that's why Sailing 1 and 2 are already there as placeholder channels until the sports channels are ready to start broadcasting. No,we don't know how much the subscription will be yet as nothing has been announced.

Been with VM since the Telewest era. Had freeview already in my room when Sky Sports News got pulled off the Virgin platform for a while. So I had both sports news channels. On the morning of it's launch I had an email read out live on air by Setanta. I enjoyed it's coverage of England games. Premier League & boxing.

Who can remember the Virgin Media placeholder name for Sky Sports News when Sky hiked their prices? "SKY SPORTS SNOOZE". Classic.

I love Sky Sports/News and ESPN

Thanks for showing the tweet.

But as an aside, in regard to VM, of which theres been no mention, theres actually no guarantee it will be on the Virgin Media platform.

As BT and Sky are expected to play ball with one another. But BT don't have to do that with VM, and BT could even play hard ball with them, where the wholesale price is concerned. Because BT won't subsidise the price just to get it onto VM's platform. So that should be an interesting situation to follow over the next few months.

Some other stuff answered at https://twitter.com/TVfromBT (some of which we already know):

- No deal in place yet for Virgin Media...
'We'll let Virgin Media customers know if/how they can access the channels closer to launch.'

- More information about costs closer to launch.

- BT Sports Channels to launch in the summer.

- Subscribers to BT Sports via Sky will deal with BT directly...
'BT Sport will be available on Sky. You'll just need to call BT to add BT Sport.'

- More content to be bought yet...
'We'll announce more sport signings as soon as they happen.'

Well I shan't be calling BT to subscribe then. The only way I would even consider it is if it was retailed through Sky (as I have Multiroom and I'd want it on both boxes).

What a shambles.

Does anyone else wish the EU hadn't meddled in the Premier League rights and we needed just one subscription for all Premier League football?

Absolutely. I've been saying this for ages. Competition isn't great when it comes to this sort of thing. If Sky - or anybody else, I don't really care - had rights to all 154 games then it'd be a lot cheaper for us all.

Companies having a certain number of games each ultimately means the consumer is losing out.

That rule expired before this new PL contract. The PL themselves are now imposing the rule of no broadcaster being able to buy more than 116 games.

Could BT not do multiroom for you via your Sky boxes? Pricing has not been announced yet for any platform.

Sod the consumer - nobody could care less about that part it would seem. The only people who must be thrilled with the knock on effects of the ruling are Richard Scudamore and the clubs themselves because they're the ones who benefit from the increased sums.

I was not doing a BT Sports Blog until much later because I do not know the Prices yet or the Packages yet when things are finalised - since you asked

I will be Posting on these Forums though in the meantime with my Opinions and News

I can tell you the following though

I saw BT Sports broadcasting base on Twitter, the Photo was on their Twitter site inside and out, there was nothing inside so BT has to kit it out from scratch, it was just a hall they are using inside the International Broadcasting Centre

Out of interest, does anybody know how much Sky packages cost before the EC's nonsense ruling on the Premier League? I didn't have Sky back then!

How much was the 'Entertainment Pack', and how much was Sky Sports on top of that?

Tremendous. Can hardly wait.

Will that 'News' be posted as such a few hours after somebody else has posted it and it has been discussed quite a bit?

Probably. However, they will no doubt charge extra for a Multiroom version of BT Sport, which is laughable when you consider that some of us will already be paying for a Sky Multiroom sub.

Apologies if I'm in the wrong thread but what chance is there of someone like Sam Matterface being a commentator for them? I get the impression that BT signing Jake Humphrey (and Georgie Thompson?) that BT are looking for younger people on the up.

I have forgotten how much the Entertainment package was back then, I think it was about £4 a month with the Artsworld channel £6 a month,
then for the rest of the football you needed the Premiership Plus channel at £50-£80 a year OR £15 a game, the same as the Boxing used to be when it was on Sky Box Office

If BT do a deal like what happened with ESPN then you will get the BT Sports channels and ESPN on all of your boxes, if it is what happened with Setanta then you will need to take out a Multiroom Sub with BT as well
