Err, didn't Sky broadcast the Football Conference at one point?”

Yea, but BT Sports is "free" - hadn't you heard? I think they might have mentioned it at some point.

Apologies if this is a stupid question...if I want to subscribe to ESPN to watch preseason football at the end of July...do I subscribe to ESPN via Sky or BT sport? I know BT Sport launches in Aug - but what happens before then?

If I remember correctly Sky's coverage was somewhat limited to a small handful of games a season so I guess that it's arguable.

The biggest exponents of conference football were Setanta, who broadcast several matches as well as sponsoring its cup.

Indeed was just looking back at those details - 79 games per season apparently.

I enjoyed the setanta coverage it was good. But its nice to see it will be on BT sport and in HD so looking forward to it. The A league sound good too. I'm just worried about the US sports side of things as ESPN America is great and I will miss that channel.

Or another possibility - CH57 could be used as a BT Sport News feeder channel. In much the same way Sky Sports News used to be.

That is just a guess though.

Not a bad guess but the channel is encrypted whereas Sky Sports News on Freeview was not.

Yes I've read its flagged for encryption even though atm it isn't.

But I've just found confirmation its not going to be ESPN (which I'd read before on other BT pages) -

Can I get BT Sport if I don't live in a BT Infinity area?

Yes you'll still be able to get BT Sport.

On BT TV

If you don't live in a BT Infinity area and you want to watch on BT TV, you'll be able to watch BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2 on your BT Vision+ box, through your TV aerial. You won't be able to get BT Sport in HD, or ESPN on your TV, but you can watch ESPN live online at btsport.com or on the BT Sport App.

To watch BT Sport over your aerial, you'll need to have BT broadband and a BT TV package, a compatible set-top box, and buy a £10 viewing card if you don't already have one.

Good question.
Sky are not taking new subscriptions for ESPN. Existing customers have already been sent an e-mail saying ESPN are nothing to do with them after July 31st.

I suspect July is a 'black hole' for anyone new wanting ESPN before the BT tanks roll onto Sky Sports turf.
Does it give any further clues on espn.co.uk?

Premier sports is going to get seriously hurt by this acquisition of conference football by BT. Will they give up altogether? I don't see how they can keep trading, their rights are looking more and more sparse. Any chance BT or Sky might buy up the rights? If BT too I would love the boxing.

Here's wishing probably.

One question...

when signing up to BT Sport as part of the free BT Sport for BT Broadband customers, when does the new 12 month contract for BT Broadband start?

surely, it should only start on 1 August as this is when BT Sport starts?

im asking as we added BT Sport, but then realised we wanted to update our BB package from Option 3 (£26/month) to the new Unlimited Broadband Extra (£21/month). Problem is, we now cannot as it appears the Broadband contract has already started, so we're stuck on the legacy Option 3 until next June.

im sure i read somewhere the 12 month BB contract for free BT Sport only start from August!

Following the announcement of the live Premiership Rugby matches, BT have also announced a weekly rugby show - 'Rugby Tonight' - to air on Wednesdays.

They have also put up a picture of the studio,

I've sent the following e-mail to ESPN through their website/contact page...

Please can ESPN make a proper announcement about the programming from 1 August on the "remaining" ESPN channel in the BT package. There are many people like myself, who are US sports fans. I've had NASN/Setanta/ESPN throughout for 10 years, and was extremely disappointed that ESPN America is ending. Will Around The Horn, Pardon The Interruption (not the UK version!), College Football live, NASCAR Now talk shows still be on? How much College Football will there be, and will you be showing College Gameday? When there are clashing US live big games - e.g. in College Football and Baseball in the early hours, when presumably BT will have no live sport, will any of ESPN's US sport be shown on BT, as happened with ESPN America and ESPN UK? If I subscribe to BT it will mainly be for the ESPN channel/US programming more so than the BT content, but there is scant little info available. When will the August ESPN programming schedule be available to view online? Many thanks.

Worthy points but the channel will be run by BT from 1 August so this question should be directed to BT not ESPN.

Premier Sports is replacing its twin channel Setanta 1 in Ireland so no danger of it closing soon. Plus it has acquired a host of other rights including the NRL. A curve ball would for BT to bundle Premier Sports with its channels in the UK, in the same way that Setanta bundles BT Sport and Premier Sports in Ireland.

I know there's a separate thread but I think it's worth posting on here as well as it gives a feel for the structure of the overall BT Sport schedule.

See link below for the first batch of live BT Sport Aviva Premiership games.

There are 3 games per week at:

Fri 7.45pm
Sat 3.15pm
Sun 2pm

In week 1 only (6/7/8 Sept) there are 4 games (including Twickenham doubleheader) at:

Fri 7.45pm
Sat 2pm
Sat 4.30pm
Sun 2pm

In week 7 (2 Nov) the Saturday game is at 5.30pm to avoid clashing with the live England (rugby union) game live on Sky Sports.

Will the Sat 3.15 rugby be on BT1? If so would we expect the football coverage to end at 3? And indeed do we know when their football coverage will begin? Will they go for midday or a bit earlier to give them an hour or so build-up?

We don't know.

Someone previously posted speculation that BT would have a Saturday afternoon "football scores" show after their live PL game but we certainly don't know that as fact.

The 3.15pm rugby KO appears timed to fit nicely after the end of the 12.45pm live PL game but I guess they would want to do that even if the rugby was on BTS2 with football scores on BTS1.

Quote:
“Coaches and their assistants will be interviewed in the middle of Aviva Premiership matches under BT Sport’s ambitious plans for its first season of rugby.
The new satellite broadcaster, which maintains that all rugby professionals have a “duty” to bring their game to a broader audience, also intends to interview referees in the aftermath of games and to put cameras in players’ dressing rooms.
Launching the fixtures calendar for next season, which includes 69 televised games and four at Twickenham, Lawrence Dallaglio, the former England captain, denied that the unprecedented coverage would be intrusive.
“Clearly we’ve thrown lots of ideas into the mix – some are pretty conservative, right through to some being a bit more open,” he said. “We’ve come up with something that keeps everyone happy.
“We want to maintain the support base that we’ve got, which is patient rugby supporters, but we want to reach out to a new audience at the same time, younger viewers both male and female.””

Just seen what looks like a new ITV Sport advert, with the strap line "FREE. FOR. ALL." - wonder who that is aimed at.

Why do ITV feel the need to wade in? It's not like BT sport is going to have any affect on them unless BT suddenly acquire things like their CL rights etc eventually.

Personally if I was BT I would market live Saturdays, PL followed by Premier Rugby.

There is already Soccer Saturday and Focus, no need for another scores show.

They've been using the 'Live and free' line for a while so it's nothing new for them to emphasise 'free'. If a little stab at anybody, I actually presumed it was at Sky when I first heard them use it when advertising a Champions League match.
