I think the costs would be too high to bundle into the existing XL pack. However, I don't think the competition authorities would allow a supplier to determine how Virgin priced/packaged its products. Restraint of trade and all that.

If an announcement is made tomorrow, I wonder if a deal for Premier Sports would be announced too? Perhaps a new sports pack would include them both, thereby making direct comparison with the BT Sport on Sky offering harder?
I think a deal with deal with premier sports is much more likely than a deal with btsport. I will eat my proverbial hat if BT Sport goes on VM any time soon, never mind bundled within the XL pack.

I think the channel could do with the exposure that the XL Pack would give it. OK, it didn't, ultimately, help Setanta/ESPN as they're not here anymore (well, ESPN is, but only in name), but the channel isn't going to have much of a reach otherwise if the figures are to be believed.

None of what BT is doing will matter if nobody is watching the stuff, so giving it to VM XL customers 'at no exta cost' can only be a good thing. BT will get money from Virgin, so they're only cutting their own nose off to spite their face by not putting it on the cable platform in one form or another.
and that would mean strengthening a rival's service. Not in the best interest of BT.

I think the Virgin deal is inevitable. But I agree I find it hard to imagine it'll be in the XL pack, an XXL plan however, is not too far-fetched or a discount for XL subscribers.

A rival yes, but not really in TV terms. The platforms are not in the slightest bit comparable at the moment.

If I were a VM customer, though, then not having access to BT Sport wouldn't be an incentive to move away from VM. In terms of the hassle of switching to a new provider, BT Sport isn't a big enough carrot to do so. I'd bet money that the numbers switching to get BT Sport are minimal, and certainly not worth withholding it for any longer than the initial BT Sport launch period.

There will come a time, and in my view that time is here already, where BT's stubbornness with VM just looks silly.

This has seemed to have gone around in circles so many times that I've forgotten some of the basics.

Is there anything stipulated that BT's Premier League games have to be on any other platforms? Could they have just kept them to their own tv offering, is it entirely up to them where they offer them or is there a requirement?

I'm just thinking that the PL must have some kind of clause to say you've been awarded these games through the bidding process but they must be fairly distributed (and there is an amount of people for whom cable is either the only option or the clearly best option)?

I saw this again a couple of months back, from 2008, and it made me think what a merry-go-round this all is:

Great reading that again.

Dan Marks, the chief executive of BT Vision, today reiterated his target of 2 million to 3 million subscribers for the hybrid Freeview and broadband TV service by 2012.
He left in 2009.

Dan Marks has quit as chief executive of BT Vision due to reported frustrations at subscriber levels and other "big issues" affecting the UK pay-TV market.

Marks' shock resignation comes after five years at BT, in which he also fulfilled the position of deputy managing director of BT Consumer.

While launching the BT Vision service back in 2006, the executive pledged to attract three million subscribers by 2010, but this currently stands at just 430,000.

Mildly amusing note in the BT Sport schedules, the Rio Ferdinand testimonial on Friday 9th August is actually on BT Sport 2, on BT Sport 1 at the same time is JP Morgan Rugby 7s Finals. Not entirely sure what the thinking is there.
Surprised that isn't on MUTV exclusively as I think their pre-season tour has been.

Also means BT's commitment to womens tennis only extends as far as showing it as long as football doesn't get in the way.

So all things being equal as one who subscribed to BT days after their announcement I should be able to access their channels once they go live, i.e. without having to do anything?

Really sorry if this has been answered already - but will BT being making the app available for subscription for those that have neither access to any BT services nor Sky? If so, is it the same 12/15 price?

Looking at the online Radio Times listings (seems to go up to mid way through Sunday 11th at the moment) there seem to be at least a few French and German football matches - is there any truth to the rumours of BT having full live or delayed coverage of every game from those leagues though? I'd assume the rest are on the online player if so, looking at the current TV schedule.

Virgin Media for both.

What I was asking is will people be able to pay a subscription just for the app if they have no tv service that will receive the channel and aren't a BT BB customer? My laptop has a HDMI output so I can stream at a similar quality to a tv channel with relatively little hassle (obviously if VM offers the channel this becomes redundant).

BTW, it's just a question our of curiousity. I've no doubt I will view the channel via other means rather than pay 15 for app access.

Edit - though if the app offers Olympics levels of multi-channels I may reconsider.

There is no way of doing this at the moment, but who knows in the future?

Haven't subscribed yet but noticed BT Sport HD 1 & 2 and BT Sport 1 & 2 are all in the clear. BT Sport 2 had the upgrade screen. How will you now known then if u've subscribed successfully?

Stop talking nonsense, they are not "in the clear". They are encrypted and part of either the FTV channels or Entertainment package right now (not sure which).

If you've subscribed it'll be on your BT bill. The encryption level should change within the next couple of days.

Testimonial matches are all about making money - so the more channels that show it the better.

Is is normal for these to be shown by MUTV and another channel - usually Sky but has been others in the past.

Yes highlights only for NASCAR and NASCAR now program. Must say baseball is looking rubbish. 1 game a night if we are lucky that's poor.

ESPN America only typically show one game after midnight each night. Occasionally they show a 3am game too, but not that often. ESPN seem to be continuing this trend post-ESPN America. The only difference is likely to be in the day baseball that's shown, but I think we all expected that to reduce.
