I agree with earlier posts that all other ISPs are going to be hit by this.

I'm with a small ISP - I'll stay with them as I know the MD so if anything goes wrong I know I've literally got personal support. But as someone who will subscribe to BT Sport for £12/£15 it would obviously be cheaper for me to get BT Broadband.

One thing that I imagine causes some stickiness is the need to change email address. If I didn't have the above personal contact then the need to change email address would also be an issue for me in changing broadband provider.

I am a sky tv customer with bt infinity 2 broadband.
I have just signed up to btsport on the bt website.
You have to give them your sky viewing card number and have your bt account handy.
I can confirm it is free until August 1st 2014 (at least) and Hd free also.
Hd is a £3 charge after the above date.

The channels don't start until August 1st.

Access flags can be downloaded to the subscriber's card either over the air (via 'hidden' data streams) or by using the box's built in modem,

The only problem with it is you need your own call center to handle the subs. Which also drives up cost. Satanta was known for having bad custom services and impossible to cancel subs.

Nobody knows... but I'd air more on the side of saying 'no' as opposed to 'yes'. They'll definitely 100% be on the old black BT Vision boxes though.

If you have BT Infinity and have a BT Vision Box or YouView via BT, then the new Sports channels will automatically be added to your subscription.

You don't have to do anything!!!

It's great that it is free if you are a BT Broadband customer.

Yep, but BT are already adept (largely - I'm sure that people have horror stories, but that's the same for any large corporation) at handling customer orders/cancellations and have already opened up a new call centre to process the extra demand. So, I hope that there won't be problems on the same level as Setanta, who were hopeless in this regard!

Really? Rumours are suggesting that Sky Sports 1 and 2 are being taken off DTT to be replaced by Bt Sport 1 and 2. Thus, if they are to be shown at all, this will have to be via multicast streaming through YouView.

Any answer to my earlier question re how long BT has said it will make BT Sport free to BT Broadband customers?

Must admit, when BT first announced the PL rights deal I didn't fully appreciate quite what a powerful package they would be able to put together, they've suddenly become a really strong player.

Its free for one year then its £3 pm there after for BT customers

Sky is £15pm in HD £12pm in SD I can see a few jumping over to BT from next season unless sky reduce the cost of Sky sports which is very unlikely

It's still free after first year but 3ppm if you want it in HD which I guess most will.

I think BT subsidiary PlusNet, who I'm with will be hit too once people's contracts expire. I can understand BT wanting to keep a difference between it and PlusNet but PlusNet is now starting to look a bit crippled compared to other ISPs.

Most people I know have gmail/hotmail/yahoo email addresses so moving between providers is not an issue. Also social media tools are used more for communicating now than email. Including this forum!

Yes.. to be delivered via Infinity to black vision boxes. The waters are unclear at the moment as to whether the deal BT have got actually covers YouView too.

Yes, BT is a massive player and they will market it very, very well and also on a collosal scale.

I still think the big downside is the Sat 12.45pm kick-offs - we know from BARB they always rate very badly - eg a few weeks ago Wigan v Newcastle at Sun 4pm outrated Everton v Man City at Sat 12.45pm by miles - not far off double from memory.

So when it comes to it I don't think the ratings will be great but people will be attracted by the concept of BT Sport so I think they're going to do well.

Surely there will be a youview update by August 1'st to allow people to see the channels otherwise how will new people watch this stuff on BT?

From the confirmation email, looks like they are keeping ESPN on ch417 and reusing ESPN Americas EPG slots for the BT SD channels

Quote:
“Your BT Sport service

When BT Sport launches on the Sky digital satellite platform on 1 August 2013, you'll be able to watch:

BT Sport 1 on channels 413 / 426

BT Sport 2 on channels 414 / 427

ESPN on channels 417 / 433

You'll need to use the Sky viewing card below:

£3 a month for HD is for nothing anyway.

Is that the case for the average household decision maker - ie "head of household"?

What? Are you saying BT Sport is £3 per month for BT Broadband customers after year 1?

So the whole "free" concept is ditched that quickly?
DragonQ

I'd have thought it'd be £3pm for BT broadband customers wanting HD after the first year, judging by the wording on the website.

It would be nice if you could just phone up and be able to get access to the freeview channels too
