17 [25] = Carmel Valentine = 7.95% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (15-25-17) At 17 is Carmel who takes a surge back up the Hollyoaks Character rankings. A fair few years ago when GazBoi ran a similar Hollyoaks thread Carmel won. Since then she was in a bit of a decline to be honest and then shackled with Calvin and the Valentines. However she has come out of the other side and I think the whole tanning booth accident has completely brought out a new side to Carmel's character. The scenes just after the accident were fantastic and some of Gemma Merna's best scenes in the role. I also love the fact the character is still scarred and it hasn't just been brushed under the carpet. It was good to see the character dealing with an adult issue as opposed to being just used as comic relief I do like Carmel though. |

Just give Dodger back his slutty, cheeky chappy routine rather than this dready seriousness and "love" for planky Texas. Or just give him and Sienna an incest plot.

16 [NE] = Martha Kane = 8.01% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (X-X-16) Getting the silver medal in the oldie's category this year is Martha who debuts inside the top 20. I think Martha is actually quite a good character and last year it was good to see how her actions impacted on the rest of the Kanes. I like the fact she isn't perfect and stumbles from one bad decision to another. The Ally storyline saw her kick ass though... or more importantly Ally's ass and tried to do right by Lacey and Ash. Unfortunately the character hasn't been seen since; hopefully she'll return from the wilderness soon and hasn't had an off screen exit like her daughter. I think (like Callum) there is a lot of potential with the character and would be good to see her developed more. |

15 [17] = Annalise Appleton = 8.30% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (X-17-15) Kicking off the top 15 is Annalise who takes a 2 place climb up the rankings. I guess her rise is slightly odd considering she's in a bit of a storyline blackhole at the moment with all the other uni students. I've actually grown to like the character of Annalise and liked her friendship with Cheryl too. However the Annalise, Rob, Scott drama was drawn out and then went to nothing as Scott left. After such a build up for the characters it seemed a very odd thing to do. However since them Annalise hasn't really had any majorly big storylines to write home about but I guess that could all change in 2013. |

14 [NE] = Maxine Minniver = 8.49% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (X-X-14) Maxine becomes the third highest new entry this year and manages to gain a place in the top 15. I think Maxine is a great character and Nicki Sanderson and Rachel Shenton play off each other very well and the dialogue is always good between them. Like Mitzeee when she first came into the show, Maxine is used to great comedic effect. I'm guessing she will carry on the Minniver spirit when Mitzeee eventually leaves the show in a couple of months time; hopefully Maxine is brought much more into the forefront of the show and is given plenty of good storylines to get her teeth into. I've never really been a fan of Nicki Sanderson in general, but I think she does quite well as Maxine. |

13 [NE] = John Paul McQueen = 9.36% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (X-X-13) So at 13 is the second highest new entry (or re-entry if you prefer); John Paul. JP is a character who gained a huge following on the show during Kirkwood's last stint on the show due to the McDean dramas (awww Craig ). Since his return I can't help but feel though that the character hasn't really been shown in the best light or used in the most effective of ways. He has clearly made a big impression though to rank so highly, but personally I would put that down to his previous appearances instead of his latest stint. The whole baby storyline adds a different dimension to the character, however hopefully the character is used a bit more in the next few months of the show to better affect.

12 [12] = Cindy Hutchinson = 9.37% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (X-12-12) A non-mover at 12 for soap bitch Cindy. Cindy has had quite a busy year; getting married to Tony, whilst having a fling with Rhys. The wedding reception went with a bang which resulted in Rhys and a fair few others dying. I think Cindy is a great character and possibly not always likeable, but there is so much history there with the character that its good to see her having a continued presence on the show. I think the character does work for the comedy scenes as well as the drama and it will be good to see where the characters of Cindy and Tony progress to throughout the coming year. |

11 [21] = Tony Hutchinson = 9.83% (Semi Final)
Ranking History (16-21-11) So the longest serving member of the Hollyoaks cast takes a huge climb of 10 places to just outside the top 10 and to his best ranking to date. Tony has been in the show since the beginning and has survived cast culls, revamps, explosions and fires, serial killers, car crashes and a fair few soap bitches in his time. For a while I think the character of Tony was a bit lost and I don't think he had a proper place in the show anymore. However I think that has changed more now; the focus of the show is less teen orientated and a character like Tony thrives better when the focus is on 18-30's as opposed to the 14-17 age bracket. The character recently got married for the I don't know 5th time... something like that, and it was ill-fated from the beginning. So 2013 could be an interesting year for Tony as he sorts out his marital life with Cindy. |

10 [16] = Myra McQueen = 497pts
Ranking History (11-16-10) Kicking off the top 10 and climbing to 6 places to get her highest ranking to date is Myra; head of the McQueen clan. I have to say I was quite shocked that Myra made it through to the final round, in a way I find her a bit like Mercedes in that she is a bit of a tired characters; but that must just be me! She remains as ever popular on the programme, trying to deal with all her children's crap the whole time and trying to keep the family together. In the final round, Myra did gain quite a lot of support, however I think she was a bit out of her depth and got a huge load of bottom places. She put up a good fight, but I think the final round was seriously stretching her support |
