Anyone heard William Shatner's new album - Has Been? I suprisingly found myself liking it (and no I don't mean in an ironic way). With superb production by Ben Folds and a raft a guest artists alongside Shatner, this has to be in my Top Ten albums of the year...

Heard it a fair few months ago. I had been waiting for it for a while after hearing an excerpt from common people.

Very impressive album.

I can get behind it.

I bought it a couple of months ago myself and was extremely impressed by the quality and honesty of the songs ("fear of losing my hair"). I have had a copy of 'The Transformed Man' for a few years now and was sort of expecting 'Has Been' to be a similar collection of 'ironic' covers and terrible original songs done in the ususal hammy Shatner ... so bad its good ... style. How wrong I was
Definitely one of my top ten best albums of the year as well.

Can I ask a very silly question.

I presume this is not the same person who starred as Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series.

Shows you where I've been for the last few years.

Can he really sing?

It's certainly different. Listen for yourself.

His biography says he was born in 1931, so that makes him ... How old???
I hope I'm as good at his age.

not only was he captain kirk.... but he was the best one as well ... this multi millionair. cut himself off from the other crew members after each episode and he would never or rarley speak to them..
as for the question no i have not heard his album yet..
and he is not a bad singer for a man who is nearly 80

Isn't the real talent behind the album Ben Folds?....especially seeing as Shatner speaks the words rather than sings them?

That's Me Trying is a beautiful talk by Shatner, with a lovely musical backing. The whole damn album is brilliant.

My personal favourite is "I'm Real"... explains how Shatner must have felt all these years being an SF icon and not being able to escape his Captain Kirk persona. Very closely followed be "Thats Me Trying"...
