Hehe, comment on the Guardian live blog:

Whoever the skeleton turns out to be, Atos will immediately declare him fit for work.

You can only trace as far back as records go and then they have to be accurate and even our own census is only as accurate as the people who fill them in.

If they said they got the DNA from his wifes body and tested it i may be a bit more trusting and think maybe they are right.
i wonder how long it will be before someone comes up and say it was fake or the DNA was wrong.

it happens a lot, where things have proved wrong over the years.
Unless he married his sister what use would that be?

I think the most startling discovery is that they found him under a car park. I didn't think they had car parks in 1485.

As someone who has had experience with ATOS, this is comedy gold ()...and yet, disturbingly, not far from the truth.

That was Harold, you should be ashamed of your history knowledge.

I thought they've discovered a medieval latrine.

All that work and all they dug up was a Richard the Third!

King Richard:
A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!

Catesby:
Withdraw, my lord; I'll help you to a horse.

King Richard:
Slave! I have set my life upon a cast,
And I will stand the hazard of the die.

i hope they used a blind test, and compared the DNA of the "king" to the claimed descendant, and about 50 other people randomly selected from the area.

Is he now considered a "bone"-idle sponger, living off the State by the Daily Mail-brigade?

I suspect the Atos apologists will not see the funny side of this thread.

Maybe. He was in the unenviable position of having to paint Richard black, as QE the 1sts grandfather was the one that did for him.

That's a fairy story, not history, though see above, probably not the Bard's fault.

I take it not too randomly selected, as 'the area' is now about 50% Asian. That wouldn't prove anything except that people from Islamabad are not related to the Plantaganets.

But wouldn't he now be retired? He's about 550 years old Even I only have to work to 67 as it stands at the moment.
