As the New year is a few hours away. Do you think mobile networks will start to play up as it gets near 12am and the hour after 12am.

Yes.

o2 played up Xmas Eve midday so I'm sure they will have some kind of problems sooner or later.

Touch wood, though, when I was on Orange last New Years Eve they were absolutely cracking - managed to text and call several times around the Midnight mark!

I don't think they'll necessarily 'play up' but if you're calling, there might be so many people calling in your 'cell' that you get a 'network busy' error, or the amount of txts between people at 00:00 might mean slower delivery than normal. But, all in all, I think the service from all the networks should be good.

Guess it really depends on the network. I only have Orange and haven't had problems at Chrimbos/New Years.

Last NYE Orange were running superbly, messages to Orange phones (and to my dads vodafone and mums t-mobile) were reported as delivered within 60 seconds (okay 50 seconds slower than normal!) only messages to o2 took much longer (like 2 or 3 hours). [in previous years i'd just get "message sending failed"]

xmas day didn't have any problems with T-Mobile, got one network busy on Vodafone (when trying to activate my mums new phone), but GPRS was down all day on 02, and messages from my sisters phone were taking about 10-15 minutes to be delivered.

Yes, its annoying and its all down to drink - generally people cant just wish me happy new year bloody once, they have to do it several times during the evening and then, as if it means more, another message or drunken call at the stroke of midnight.

Very tedious. Its great reward to my patience to know they are seriously ill the following day with a damn awful hangover.

I cant send any text on my 02 pay and go and I cant even phone with my mobile. I sent my girl a text via the 02 website 15 or 16 mins ago but have no idea if she got it on her Orange mobile. My sister phoned 10mins ago from her 02 contract phone and it seemed to ber working ok. Hope my mobile will be working in morning when I get up.

My girl text me 5mins ago from her Orange mobile and I got it within a few mins of her texting me so my guess is she got my text via the 02 website. I still cant send a text on my 02 pay and go. Hope it will be ok in morning when I get up. Im going to listen to the radio for a while in bed I think and try and text my girl when I get up in moring and hope mobile is working again for I dont have many free text left to send via 02 website and its a pain when the mobile plays up. Happy New Year everyone.

This new year i was using T-Mob PAYG, Fresh, and Orange.

Fresh was disconnected from the network for a lil while NO SIGNAL! But it was ok when had signal

T-Mobile allowed calls ok, most time.

Orange okish for calls, texts sent but no status reposts (i've sent about 20 texts)

Family had Virgin, that was not too good!

Also sent some texts on Orange to Orange which seemed to send ok, but no delivery reports.

Either they haven't got there yet, or do you reckon orange turn off delivery reports at busy times?

Just before I went to bed at 1.30am. my Sister text me from her 02 mobile and I got it on my 02 with in 5mins. When I tried to reply it said message failed and 02 tane 10p of me. So my guess is that maybe even though it said message faild my text did send that time. It was like my sisters 02 contract mobile was working nearly fine and my 02 pay and go was playing up badly. You would think all mobiles on the same network would be the same. Mums old 02 Genie that shes had since 02 tane over BTCellnet would not even make calls and text on that was only down for just under an hour but calls was down much longer. My 02 pay and go never came back ok till this morning when I tried it just after 9am. Even my girls Orange pay and go mobile was sending the odd text.

I'm on Orange, most texts were going through ok but phone calls where another story. Calls to Landlines and Orange mobiles where fine, but calls to O2 where impossible! My phone kept saying "Number Not In Use" when I know that the number is in USE! GRRR @ o2

Happy New Year Everyone. Interesting to read about the problems with 02 - It does'nt suprise me really as 02 seem to have a lot of network problems at various times of the year. I am on Vodafone with a Contract phone and managed to send a text 12:02am with no problem. As people have been saying it's down to how busy the cells get but I think this illustrates that 02 seriously need to pull there socks up as that particular network seems to have suffered slightly more than the rest
