Which game is your biggest pleasent suprise in recent times?
From the last 12ish months i'd say i was surprised by sleeping dogs, at first i thought if activision are dropping it they must have 0 confidence in it, which could mean it's terrible
but about a week or two before release and all the media started i was suddenly interested and went out on a whim and bought it and really liked it But the biggest pleasant surprise has been 007 legends, it really it quite a good game, is it perfect no the boxing mini games are just a bit silly and seem rushed in because they couldn't come up with better fights I just really love playing through some of the films, it can be jarring when some of the characters look the same and some are different the bad press and the fact activision withdrew all their bond games but me off the game for a while, but now that i've played it as a huge bond fan it is a great game |

Shadows of the damned, bought it on a whim I know it's nothing new gameplay wise but for some reason I just really really liked it

I agree with Sleeping Dogs.
Binary Domain was a surprise hot for me last year but I never gave Spec Ops The Line a chance. Many people would put that as their "surprise" of last year. |

Not really. Sleeping Dogs had all the ingredients to be a great game, activision pulling out just made it all the better. They know shit about making a quality game.

Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed.
Picked this up on the cheap thinking it'll be a fun Mario Kart clone, but it's really good with beautifully designed levels that do great sega fan service. Theres a whole host of modes and challenges, and the transforming between kart plane and boat works really well. Better than Mario Kart Wii I think. |

FarCry3
Simply because it genuinely surprised me, I normally frown upon FPS titles and at best find them only just playable until the end. FarCry3 had me hooked from the start and I still play today. Best game in a long while. |

The Walking Dead. My friend recommended I download and try the first episode over Christmas as it was available for free. Was hooked within 10 minutes.
Also agree with Sleeping Dogs. |

Skyrim. Absolutely not a fan of lone player, hack and slash or fps (though I adore Champions of Norrath) but this just hooked me and never let go. Still scares me witless every time I play it, but that's just me.

The Walking Dead for me. It's been many years since I've cared about the characters in a game so much. I grew to love nearly all of them and got genuinely upset when I said the wrong thing in conversations and had them hating me or not trusting me. I made 8 year old Clementine cry by telling her we wouldn't have time to look for her parents before leaving the zombie-infested town we were in, and an hour after turning my console off I was still feeling bad about it! Just a fantastic story and a fantastic game!

Sleeping Dogs and Dishonored.
Dishonored especially as it was pretty much a day one blind purchase, very pleased with it. |

The Walking Dead; just a stupendously good and involving, albeit necessarily depressing game. Go get it.

Thanks to PS+ I found out that for all its juvenile presentation Bulletstorm was a pretty fun game to play and Ratchet and Clank All for One was actually reasonably good fun as a solo experience and really fun with a team working together.
I also agree with Hell Yeah, it took a bit to hook me but once it did I played it until I had 100% of the trophies. I am only an hour in but I will probably agree with everyone saying Sleeping Dogs in a few days unless something really bad happens. Its been a good start so far. |

Playing Mafia II on the back of Eurogamer's 4/10 review. I loved the original on PC and the sequel didn't disappoint. The game was linear and at points felt unfinished but the level of detail they packed into the world is quite frankly ridiculous, the immersion you get from just walking around this living, breathing city was only rivaled by GTA IV IMO.
The driving physics are also the best in the genre by far, tied to an impressive damage model, graphically overall it was a very impressive game despite what some publications said. I loved the realism, the way bullets ripped though wood and dismantled objects, smashing out lights and even the way glass is handled in the game, it left an impression on me that the devs really cared about this game. Have to mention the brilliant soundtrack as well (especially the title tune, which is up their with Mirror's Edge for me) and it goes without saying I found it really fun to play as well. I could also apply this same point to GTA IV (+ DLC) and playing it years after it's release. It's such an impressive game on so many levels, I never will to this day understand the hate it gets. |

That's good I've got Sleeping Dogs in queue : ) I was unsure whether it would be good or not - hoping it wasn't a bad GTA replica in Hong Kong.
What are the aspects of the game that surprised people? |
