Pensioner starved to death
News headlines today, a pensioner has died in hospital after her care agency left her for nine days without food, water or medication.
It appears the agency closed down after being raided by the border agency looking for illegal immigrants. |

I read this earlier. Terrible.
Presumably this agency had other clients that were covered by an alternative means. It will be interesting to see how this poor old lady was missed. |

David Camerons britain were people dont count only profits, It has been seen and proved loads of times that when you move things like care of the elderly into the private sector it costs lives, because companys are only real job is to make money. How many things that get put into the private sector benefit people,

This is a f****ng disgrace. As soon as it became evident that the people providing the care were under investigation, everyone should have been reassigned alternative care.

I'm sure the people to blame in this harrowing case however, were the management of the care centre who failed to ensure that the unfortunate people on their books were cared for after arrests were made. |

A more likely scenario is that had the last government not had such a blase attitude to immigration and illegal immigration, fraudulant operations like the one closed down wouldn't have believed they could get away with it. |

In Dickensian Britain it was probably more expected that relatives of the old and infirm had some responsibility for their welfare. Erosion of Great Britain? To an unbiased outsider it would probably make more sense to see losing an empire and the country split (Scottish devolution) as an example. I daresay history will decide that. |

A friend of mine was a 'Temp' for the Immigration authorities in London in the early 2000s. She told me that 'Learn English Schools', Domestic Agencies, Nursing Agencies, etc. were raided on a daily basis. The owners usually moved on and opened up somewhere else. It was a real eye-opener for her apparently.

Imagine that poor woman sitting waiting for a carer who never turned up. I hope they prosecute the agency owners for manslaughter - they must have know she was helpless and vulnerable.
It's about time the local councils took back responsibility for services like these - instead of contracting out to companies whose only motive is profit. |

It also seems this poor woman had no relatives or friends who checked on her regularly.

I'm not disputing that. I was merely commenting that she appeared to have nobody other than the carers, and when they stopped she had no-one to advocate for her.

This is the real scandal in this country, it is a frightening place to live if you are elderly and have no family who can be bothered to make sure you are looked after. I work in elderly care and this sickens me, and brought me to tears.
Cameron is doing his Blair impression, globe trotting, making a name for himself now because he has eyes on an international career once he leaves office, he is so very generous with our money overseas and we have elderly people neglegcted both in hospital and the community because local authorities and central government will not fund care to an acceptable level. We can dish out money overseas, support children who don't even live in this country, support god knows how many feckless young people while our elderly are abused. Never mind boasting about how generous we are to international aid, or how proud we are of the tens of millions we spent on the Olympics, it is in everyone's interest to be outraged and demand better care for the elderly, because it can only get worse. The local authority must have screwed up because presumably others on the care agency list got their care, and shame on the family of this poor lady. |

You'd be surprised just how many people there are of all ages who have nobody. It's more common with old people because the people that they did know may have all died. How that poor old lady must have suffered. Waiting day and night for someone to come and help her. |
