Car and insurance.. What do you pay?
Came across another thread in the advice section and a couple of users mentioned their age, what car they had, and how many no claims discount yet have an what there premiums where..
Just got me interested in how much this varies from person to person. I'm 23 with a Renault megane been driving for 5 years and have 5 years ncb. My renewal came through and was £126 per month! My partner also 23 passed her test the day before my renewal. To get her insured on my policy and only holding her license for 1 day brought my premium down to £82 a month :s I haven't got a clue how they work this out! |

She's female, therefore careful. They assume that if she drives the car 50% of the time, that's 50% fewer prangs.

it also depends on things like your job, where the car is parked overnight, how deprived (or not) is the area where you live.
I do shop around but the most i can ever save is about £30-£50. I currently pay about £360 a year, fully comp for a 1.4TDI Polo (this is with 10+ years NCD). Its a mostly poor rural area, with not many jobs and even less well paid ones. I have learned that for some reason my line of work increases my car insurance as well. |

The variation post code to post code is huge and makes any person to person comparison difficult.
Me; I'm 66 full no claims, retired, declared mileage of 5000; £250 excess. New 2.0l Skoda diesel and the cheapest I can find is about £500 p.a. Tis cos I live in E.London innit. First Direct refused outright to insure me for any money when I bought a new Jag a few years ago. |

Yes, I didn't try that option. It's worth trying all sorts of combinations to get the premium down. Also use a cash back website they are usually good for £30 or so

I've just gone from paying £900 a year on a 10 year old BMW 3 litre to £303 on a 2011 Insignia VX Line Sri 2.0 Diesel that I bought for work. Happy days.

11' Fiat 500 1.2, passed test in August so still no ncb
also my mother is a named driver on the policy(which made it more expensive) and she has full ncb. That's £112 per month with both my staff discount and nectar discount, zero compulsory/voluntary excess and no upfront deposit.

I want to be compared to drivers of similar driving ability and maturity - not to people who just happen to have similar shaped genitals. I bet all else being equal - the accident rate and cost wouldn't be that different. Women on average drive lower value cars, less of the time, for lower miles on less dangerous roads at less busy times. All of these things probably contribute significantly to the apparent disparity in accident rate. Correlation does not imply causation. |

I was actually shocked when I did it. It was £300 cheaper to park on the drive than in the garage!

Focus 1.8, zero excess, 6 years NCD, two vehicle owner.
£153 fully comp but the figure will be less when my policy comes into force as i'd told them 5yr NCD so they are re-adjusting the premium. |

Last car, Toyota yaris was £150 a year, female 26 with 4 year ncb. New car (Kia ceed) is £214 a year, I blame the change in car and equality ruling for the increase! Both fully comp. Some people pay a fortune for their insurance!
