I've seen a few episodes of the first season, does P&R get better? (I can't stand comedies where they just try and make everything awkward instead of jokes... I liked the Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm though)

I thought the first season of Parks & rec was awful but it gets much better from then on.

I've just rewatched the first three seasons of Community in preparation for Season Four. It's been a long wait, I eally hope it's worth it.

Parks and Recreation starts to pick up about 5 or 6 episodes into season 2.

Chevy Chase I could care less about now, Pierce can get very annoying at times (without being funny as opposed to being how he used to be) and he has been the cause of off-screen tensions between people, plus he filmed the series before leaving so he will still be there for this (probably the last) series

The lack of Dan Harmon influence will remain to be seen.

I remain very optimistic though, loved the first three seasons!

P&R was initially designed as a direct spin off from The Office - hence the first season and a half are extremely similar to it. However it picks up towards the end of season 2 and then becomes almost a different show from season 3 onwards. The reason I enjoyed the show is that it develops an extremely strong emotional core - almost sentimental at times. Which is refreshing from a lot of comedies that rely on misery for laughs.

In my opinion, I think COMMUNITY was the best thing that Chevy Chase has done in years. I love his character on the show. Unfortunately Chevy is a fool who constantly sabotages his own career. With COMMUNITY, he had a real good thing going and people were rediscovering him once again. Now it's over for him. I think he's going to have a very tough time with his career in the foreseeable future. He was in a very public spat with the cast & crew and quite frankly who wants to work with someone like that?

I'm still going to miss him though but the show will still be fine without him. And even though show creator Dan Harmon is gone as well, the show will be fine without him too. I'm looking forward to him creating other programs.

A friend of mine has been reading early reviews of the new episodes. Sadly they say the humour has moved away from its usual style into a completely unrecognisable style. Sad if true.

Not a bad start, but I was probably too tired to watch it and enjoy it, didn't really feel there were any LOL moments.

It felt like the same show and Chevy was still in it. I liked Abed's TV show in his head.

From the few episodes I've seen it's nothing like the Office. It's more aggressive with the awkward humour, whereas The Office tends to be subtle and balance the awkward humour with actual jokes...

That said, I'll give it another try when it airs on BBC Four....

I'm not sure it is the same P&R on BBC Four.

There is a programme with the same name but it is really about Parks in the UK.

Chevy left with 2 episodes still to wrap. He will appear in the finale, when several characters are (this is common knowledge but I'll spoiler tag it just in case)

The US version hasn't been shown on BBC4 yet, has it?

But I'm sure I saw a programme with the same name, and I gave it a go, yet it was just a documentary about UK Parks and recreation.

(btw, I've loved the previous seasons...but) can I ask where the funny was.

and yes, Chevy was still there, but it felt like he was giving off a huge "I don't wanna be here, I don't wanna be here" vibe - but I might just be getting that after reading/hearing about all the stuff surrounding his leaving - I'm hoping all that behind the scenes stuff doesn't affect my enjoyment of the rest of S4.

Weid episode to start the new (last?) season I thought, but I did love the whole idea of Ahbed's Safe place! LOL Wonder whether they will keep Ahbed's TV show in his mind for the rest of the season - definitely would be cool LOL

I was worried they'd begun using canned laughter after reading about the departure of Dan Harmon but fortunately it was just in Abed's head.

Excellent news. The ratings for the Season 4 premiere was good - much to everyone's surprise. Many of NBC's high profile TV programs have been struggling this year (the recent SMASH premiere was a disaster). And COMMUNITY has always been more of a favorite among TV critics than viewers. But I give NBC a lot of credit with sticking with this show which has always struggled in the ratings since it first aired. It's still very early in the season but I have a good feeling that we'll see a fifth.
