Hi everyone,
I ordered a couple of DVD's from them last Tuesday, they eventually posted them *first class* they said, on Friday night. Its tuesday now again and i still havent got them. How do they arrive? With the postman or on the royal mail van? Am i getting too impatient so quickly? Just its taken a week now for what it say would be posted within 24 hours

As they are based in Jersey it can take a while but I always get mine within 3 days of ordering. Some need to be signed for and others just come in normal 1st class post. I have never had any discs not turn up out of the dozens I have purchased from them

I've bought at least 1/2 dozen dvd's over the past 2 years and have only ever had the one go missing, and that was over the Christmas period so I presume someone in the post office has a DVD player!!!!
Nevertheless play despathed a second order (obviously without charge) so all is well, I would say it takes just under a week for the DVD(s) to arrive... |

yeah they say 3-5 days from postage so dont panic!!
all my DVDs are from them (plus a few CDs and GBA games) so i would think it would be with you soon as they have always turned up, albeit some quicker than others

They'll come with the postman -seems to me region 2 discs come registered and need to be signed for and region 1 come 1st class and just come through the letterbox. I've had loads from them and no probs.

They seem to be having problems with Friday deliveries. Has been discussed on another Forum. Despite their claims it seems anything they send out from Friday afternoon onwards is not despatched to the Royal Mail until Monday morning. Therefore now comes the following Wednesday instead of the Monday it used to come on.

I'm a huge fan of Play.com!
I've bought or ordered over a dozen DVDs plus some CDs and the service has been fine. Fantastic prices with free delivery. You cannot buy cheaper. I got the Godfather Boxset for £45 whereas you can't get it anywhere on the highstreet for less than £55. Bride of Chuckie for £8!! Goodfellas for £8!!! Its great that you can pre-order even 6 months ahead. And their CDs are cheap too. Schooly |

Some weird special offer perhaps but mvc.co.uk are charging £54 plus £1 delivery now.
I got it for £46 (to be precise, just checked) cos I pre-ordered but Play are still selling it now at only £48 and free delivery. You could buy another DVD from Play from the money you save and still have change left. Schooly |

The MVC thing was an in-store only promotion over the Xmas holiday. I believe they had over ordered and wanted to shift a load of the boxes. So, my £24.99 got me the set you have PLUS the soundtrack CD.

Exactly. Sale prices are sale prices, loss leaders. They'll always win but they're unreliable.
That's why I like Play, its like a permanent sale. Why? Cos they're based in Jersey so we don't pay VAT on the discs. Thats 17.5% immediately saved before any other economy measures. I only wish they sold the Region 1 discs that cheap. [sigh] Schooly |

Oh, yeah, and I'd rather buy a second DVD with the saved money than a soundtrack album. But that's just me.

I know play.com seem good, but to me they are very random. For example, ordered 6 dvds on sunday, 3 came today (wednesday) and i only had to sign for 2, altho all region 2. However, ordered most of my xmas presents from them, 3 weeks before xmas, and it all came about 3 days before xmas, and i spent 3 weeks thinking i wud have to go buy £100's worth of presents again.
A more recent example is when i bought 2 CDs both in stock, one came 4 days later, 2 weeks later the second one hadn't even been processed so i cancelled it and downloaded it. I think i migh have ordered around 50 dvds from there, i like their prices, but i think they are too popular for their own good, and if you catch them at a busy time, you can wait ages for an 'in stock' order. |

I use play to buy my region 1 discs cause they are the cheapest anywhere.
If you did purchase a r1 dvd then it takes a little longer for it to arrive, as they post it from belgium. Maybe because I dont think you can sell r1 dvds in the UK, maybe its different in belgium, although it says on their site that they do not ship to belgium. All r2 dvds are shipped from jersey. My order for a r1 dvd was posted on a friday and i had it here on the tuesday ![]() Chessy |
