Hi,
I have one of these tabs running on 2.2.1?? and it is getting a bit erratic. There is an option to format the 16Gb sd card and internal memory. Would this erase the operating system to or like my laptop revert to original state?
Up to now it has been ok but lacking speed and flexibility so I'm thinking of a new device somewhat akin to my laptop but more portable either in 7, prefered,or 10 inch size. Any recommendations for me to look at are welcome. I looked at the Playbook but am a little concerned about the ease of use.
Thanks

I think you want to do a "factory reset" or something worded like that.

This will DELETE all your apps and any personal data etc etc... But the operating system is not deleted.

The SD card won't be affected by this. But if you have installed any apps to SD Card then they probably won't work after a factory reset and will need to be reinstalled.

Don't do a format unless you are sure what it will do.

I'm not familiar with the GT-P1010 so this cannot be taken as absolute truth.

On the recommendation for a new tablet I would ask in a separate thread. The Playbook has good hardware but does not have many apps/games for it though.

The "Hard Reset" bit.

Thanks, will investigate when I get home. I'm not interested in apps unless they are useful but games etc. not required. I suppose I want a mini laptop with touch screen, doesn't have to be the bees knees but useful to carry around.
Thanks again.

I had a P1010.

Formatting the memory card would simply wipe all the data from the microSD card that you put in the phone, but wouldn't affect anything else. I dcon't recall seeing a setting which would wipe the internal memory as well. Whereabouts in settings is it? I don't think it would take off the operating system as well, but I wouldn't want to swear to that!

If you want to keep the operating system but take everything off that you've put on it, then you can 'restore to factory settings'. To get to that you need to go to Settings-Privacy-Factory Data Reset.

Regarding other tablets. When I parted with my originsl Galaxy Tab, I got a Tab2 7. It has the familiarity of being a Samsung device but runs Android Jellybean (4.1.1). I think it shipped with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and I updated it to Jellybean. It also has a dual core processor, which obviously makes it much faster than the original Tab and it has USB host. I considered several other tablets but most of them either didn't have a memory card slot or didn't have USB host. Both of these things are quite important to me, they may not be to everyone.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The Playbook is very good for browsing/media/iplayer/Youtube and just a few games/apps

The screen is IPS, bright and v good angles. 1024x600. Front speakers very good.

If a person is not massively into games it's fine. Angry Birds is available of course.

You can get a 64GB for 100 on Ebay, often new or near new. 16GB for 80

Thanks for your answers, I have done the factory reset and it's a bit faster but it might be a little dated now. I will see how it goes then perhaps will look at the Playbook.
Thanks again for the help.

Obviously put 2.3 on it or find a custom ROM.
Erratic - is the SD card working fine?

Though sounds to me that you really need a small laptop.
