Depends what size memory card you have.
I doubt you'll be able to get anything on the internal memory. fyi, if you're planning on buying a wildfire then do not! You can get much better for the money. If you already own one then fair enough. |

And yes I do have one, it suits my purposes. |

the memory card will say on it for starters.
in the storage option in settings it will also say. roughly, very roughly. you are looking at around 10 albums per gigabyte. |

How do I work out what size the memory card is?
And yes I do have one, it suits my purposes. e.g if it is 2GB you should be able to get around 350 songs. But this number can vary depending on the length of the songs and quality. |

Thanks for that. It says 1.4 gb available so by your reckoning that's 10+ albums
I have put one album on it so far, using Windows media player to copy it, and using the default quality setting, I think it took up 80 mb. I am thinking of experimenting with a higher quality recording format next time to see if it makes any noticable difference.. |

This is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions that is near impossible to answer.
There are so many variables. For a kick off what is the duration of the audio you are storing? Are you using mono or stereo? Are you using any form of bit rate reduction and if so what? If you rip the CDs in the same format as they are on CD then the resulting files will be approx 10MB per minute, 600MB per hour. Say roughly two albums per GB. If you use a bitrate reduction scheme then at 128kb/s you are looking at about 1MB per minute. So roughly 20 albums per GB. 128kb/s is probably the lowest you would want to go with mp3 and would probably be looking at 256kb/s or higher for decent quality which would reduce the capacity proportionally. |

I use Spotify, so quite a good number.
My Wildfire does not have much space. I know next time to get a phone with a lot more gigabytes in space. |

OP MP3 at 128kbps is 1MB per minute near enough. you can buy an 8GB card for about a fiver do not over fill your card. you need to leave a bit of space really for the phone to work properly. |

if you have a decent data connection, there are plenty of cloud storage options that let you access all your music on the move without using up lots of space on your phone.
I use play.google.com/music |

I have decided to order a 16 gb memory card for a tenner from Amazon
I am now wondering if its worth recording in a lossless format like flac (or wav - is that ;lossless)? for maximum sound quality. Assuming the htc will recognise those formats? |
