Thinking of moving away from Windows Phone
Hello,
I currently have a HTC HD7 Windows Phone updated to 7.8, on O2 UK. Now, I am a little bit of a WP fanboy, as it neatly ties Outlook, Xbox and my phone together under one account. I have been reading up on all the WP8 handsets and news ready for my upgrade which is due in August. In hindsight the HD7 probably wasn’t the best option, as its now discontinued. It feels very dated now. I have recently had the pleasure of a brief go on a Samsung tablet running Android. I was quietly impressed. Now my question is should I not be looking at a Windows Phone for my upgrade? I feel I may of had my head in the sand a little by concentrating on WP8. Although I like Windows Phone it certainly lacks some features when compared to my iPhone 3GS that I had prior to it. Android seems ok and I understand there is a wealth of apps available (more so than WP8 as well). My only previous sight of it was a couple of years ago and Android looked very basic and messy, I guess its moved on since then? From my basic research in the last week or so it appears the Galaxy S3 or Nexus 4 are the best options, but pricy. I read that Jelly Bean is the latest OS update as well I may be tempted to buy an unlocked handset outright now (so that my contract will expire, I am considering a different provider too). Should I be made aware of any devices due to arrive anytime soon that people are waiting for? Anyone care to give their two pennies worth? it will be much appreciated. |

Apart from the crazily cheap price, the Nexus 4 is also guaranteed to get Android updates first and fast. Billy bargain, especially if you buy it SIM free outright direct from Google and get one of the plethora of cheap SIM only deals,

You can customise the hell out of Android. What you saw is probably all stock crap. Install a launcher, fonts, themes, a browser, a keyboard etc and make it however you like.
Android = customisation

I've had a nexus 4, iPhone 4S and a Lumia 710 all running alongside each other and there isn't a noticeable difference in speed. The N4 is extremely responsive and Google have a very generous returns policy if you don't like it. I used to be big into android and ran custom roms, custom themes etc, now I'm more interested in functionality and linking my online services together.
