Next Xbox/Playstation - Persistant Online and/or no 2nd hand games - Will you buy?
Lots of rumours coming out about the new Microsoft and Sony consoles - amongst those most interesting is the possible requirement for a persistent internet connection and/or the inability to use 2nd hand games on the machines.
How will these two new "features" determine your desire to buy either of these machines? |

If one has preowned and one has no preowned (which is very unlikely, as it will kill the console that has no preowned) Then I will get the one that allows preowned. Doesnt matter if its Sony or Microsoft.

I dont buy that many 2nd hand games - but my fear is that in a few years, the server infrastructure that governs the persistent internet would not be around. I want to be able to dig out any console I own and power it up and play it - just like I can do now with my SNES.
Also, if there are no second hand games, how will we be able to buy all those titles in the future if they are not physically manufactured anymore? |

I need more information before I make a decision, with no information about how a system would work or even if it is really going to happen its too early to say really.

If they kill off the pre-owned business, I'd only be able to afford a handful of games over the space of a year, so no point in me investing in the console.
On the bright side, If both Sony and Microsoft go down this route, it could allow the new smaller (cheaper) console companies a chance to develop. |

Don't know until I find out more info about both systems but don't like what I've heard if it is true.

I dunno as gaming is something I do to pass the time when the internet goes down.

There's other things need consideration too. Will either or both allow multiple accounts on the same console. Will playstation be continuing with plus.

I always buy 2nd hand games. Brand new is very expensive.

I can handle paying 6 or 7 quid for an online pass to play second hand games online. However to play them offline is a step too far imo.

If the consoles have DRM it will drive people to PC where the games are much cheaper and there is a huge price war.

Funny isn't it. People moan about BC, yet also moan about no used games. How you gon' play your old games on a new console if you sold 'em all cuh?

I have the internet and i always buy brand new, i don't do pre-owned so not a problem for me.
I do understand that a lot of people don't have an internet connection and a lot of people cannot afford brand new games so it isn't fair on them, why change when it's worked fine this way for decades. |

Don't care about the pre-owned games personally and I can see them blocking them with a registration process.
Persistent online, I won't be happy with but it's not going to happen anyway. |

I'm not sure yet. It all depends on the games for me so they are still possible buys until we get more information.

I will not buy the PS4, unless a GTA game is exclusively made for it and not for the PS3, but before then I will not bother

I do as well tbh. If you are excited about a game then you wont hang about getting it will you. There aren't many games i'll wait to play. If i dont play them near launch, i'll likely never play them.

I would hate a console that always has to be online. Our Internet is crap and there's enough strain on the router already.
As for the no second hand games thing, it's really annoying but I could get over it. I hardly ever buy games full price so I'd just wait until it comes down. |
