BBC Red Button new pages
gsvalentine

Has any one noticed that BBC Red Button has added more sections to the service on Freesat?

For example, if you go to "Around the UK" (160), then "Scotland" (1605) They have added the following sub sections.

Headlines
Edinburgh, East and Fife
Glasgow & West
Highland & Islands
NE, Orkney and Shetland
South
Tayside & Central

So it's more like the BBC news website.

Yes, noticed this too. Have also noticed that there is no Red Button/Teletext service on BBC1 Scotland HD yet.

It's all explained on page 998 (Digital Text Changes) on the BBC Red Button service.

PS - well nearly all .... there is no explanation about the absence of the Red Button Service on BBC 1 Scotland HD

Same reason it is absent on all PSB3 on Freeview, I would think: http://faq.external.bbc.co.uk/questi...ion/red_button and http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbchd/faqs.shtml have more.

Someone over on the POV boards doesn't like the latest change on her platform - might be Freesat, though she doesn't say...http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbpointsofv...thread=8413426

And in the Business section Foreign Exchange they have expanded the number of countries but put these in the most unbelievable order - not totally alphabetic, not totally by region - it's a mess. You can't see the (Bretton) woods for the trees .
Will comment on their forums - whether it will help who knows?

You might also try using the means to get in touch with Red Buttton Text via http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs...00/3995709.stm and/or https://faq.external.bbc.co.uk/templ...atic/emailPage

Thanks - have sent messages to Points of View and Newswatch. I must say that on a previous comment I made to them a couple of years ago when they were using their own-thought-up currency abbreviations on the Red Button service they were very responsive and immediately switched to the official ISO abbreviations which everybody can understand. So I have hope this time too

What an ill-conceived update to freesat text service!

Have complained, because, quite frankly, someone's been pretty stupid and have not considered the effects on their existing users.

I guess it's just a ploy to force us to buy more TV's. No longer can I read the news articles while the missus watches the 1/4 screen tv - we now have to buy two screens for the front room!

Still no teletext/red button service on BBC1 Scotland HD. Strange

Thank goodness they've put the 1/4 screen back again.

Pity they haven't made the titles of the articles white (say) to distinguish them from the yellow body text - annoying when you read the second page and re-read the title.

I do wonder if anyone checks out colour / layout schemes before rolling them out.
