I have just watched the first ep of House of Cards (for free, no month trial yet) and the quality was not as good as I expected it to be.

While it was marked as HD and also looked so especially in the close up, it was a bit jumpy when there were big movements by characters like when they walked and pixelated in the shadows. I checked before I started that I was getting my full 30 Meg and I am.

Is this just something I would just have to put up with on Netflix or can I do something to improve the picture quality before I start my free trial?

Log into the netflix website with your account details and make sure you have the video quality settings set to highest quality.

I have no complaints with the netflix HD picture on sky fibre broadband with my Apple TV.

There are 3 video quality settings, Good quality, Better quality, Best quality.
Default is set to Better.

I'm very happy with the video quality of Netflix. I used to notice a bit of a jump every few minutes, like the video paused for a second then jumped ahead.

It turned out to be a setting on my Samsung TV, rather than anything else and with some HDMI inputs, it manifested itself.

Now that its gone, I have absolutely no problems with Netflix video quality.

To me Netflix has very good quality for a streaming service. Definitely near broadcast HD.

Hi ovbg,

Can you remember what the setting was on the Samsung TV?

I may have the same issue.

Was it by any chance the motion plus settings? I had the same issue. Switching that off (or for me, upgrading my Sammy's TV firmware) did the trick.

Yeap, the motion plus. I switched it off and it solved the problem.

Well I signed up to the months trial last night and after browsing titles my tv went into stand by without me doing anything and now won't come back on at all, best thing is it's only 6 weeks old .

I just realised my tv is also Samsung so if I get mine working or get a new one I will try changing the motion plus settings.

Found the quality of Netflix poor on my Toshiba led tv , however i changed the setting to movie on the tv and the quality was fantastic.
Not sure if might be worth doing someting similar for Samsung tvs if such optin is available.

Personally I would say that the picture quality on Netflix is better than broadcast TV.

No complaints with the quality on Netflix. I get HD and no probs on only a 6MB download. Great stuff

In fact, the only online video provider I have any probs with is LoveFilm, which is jerky as hell at times (on best quality).

Did you get your tv working again ?. My tv, also a Samsung used to go into SB whenever I tried to use itv player but found that a firmware update was needed and it worked fine after that.

I've noticed that with certain episodes of BSG, its as if certain episodes haven't been encoded properly for Lovefilm. Still, I can't fault them too much, the HD quality is very good and its great to have every episode available to watch in HD.

With both Lovefilm and Netflix, the HD quality is so good I sometimes forget I'm watching streamed video instead of broadcast TV.

^ I agree, the quality in HD is very good.

That said, some of the older SD television shows have some odd problems. Maybe this was due to converting from NTSC > PAL. But the problems are not that significant. Any recent shows and HD are excellent.

Nope. It still won't come back on, I will have to take it back to Argos.

Sounds like it has a major fault. Good thing it broke now and not after the warranty :O)

Just got my replacement tv up and running now. I will try watching netflix with the motion plus off and will see if that will improve the picture jumpyness but it seems odd as this supposed to reduce that.

Can I stream Netflix through a sumvision cyclone to try it ,also if we decide to cancel subscription is it straightforward.Had loads of hasssle cancelling Sky movies, holding for ages to get through .

Sky generally has a subscription period, often with a subsidized box. Netflix generally is a monthly subscription, and although I have not cancelled myself, I believe it is an easy matter.

It is quite easy to cancel netflix , you just go to your account
click on cancel streamming, it lets you watch untill your subscribtion runs out, If you deceide to resubscribe you click on activate streamming, note payment is then taken straigh away, but you can watch straight away.

Streaming Netflix on my PS3 now in SuperHD and while the PQ is much improved where I was getting pixelating in black is more like static in the black now. So not blu-ray quality but close to it.

It might not be bluray qulaity but Super HD looks very nice via my PS3. Watched Cape Fear and the quality was just superb.
