Pasta
Am I the only person who doesn't really like it? It doesn't taste of much and it's a bit slimy.
I'm obviously cooking it wrong, or putting the wrong sauce with it. Is homemade pasta better? Any suggestions please? |

Not much difference - shop bought is perfectly good enough if it's cooked well. Cook it in a very roomy pan with lots of boiling salted water. The pasta has to move around freely - add the pasta to the water when it comes to boiling, don't cook from cold. Give it a stir and cook with the lid off. Cook until it's just done - look at the packet timings and check a piece 2 mins earlier - keep checking and drain it in a large sieve when done. Plenty of water, season well with salt, and cook until al dente - thats all there is to it.

Cook it less than instructed then put in to the sauce and cook for another minute or two.
No need to drain it, just transfer it from the water to the sauce. If you do need to for convenience then take a cup full of the water so you can add it into the sauce if needed. |

To be fair, it doesn't taste much of anything but a slimy texture suggests it has been overcooked and there is nothing more unforgiving than overcooked pasta. Yuk!
Avoid 'fresh' supermarket pasta and splash out on a genuine imported dried pasta - if you don't have access to a good deli then try online. If you still don't enjoy it, then that's fine; we can't love everything. |

I can't see anything wrong with not liking pasta it won't appeal to everyone, myself it's olives I hate but most people seem to love them.

It's probably overcooked. Try it so there's still a bit of resistence when you bite it and see if it's better then. Fresh supermarket pasta is fine, but only needs a minute or so to cook (less than on the instructions)

I love pasta. Could eat it everyday. Home made is the best, but I also like Barila penne with tomato. You shouldn't overcook it. Always cook your pasta al dente (5-6 min.),

Pasta isn't for everyone. I used to gag trying to eat it a couple of years ago. But through being a food lover, and not wanting to miss out of food group experiences i trained myself to be able to eat it. Now i'll eat it no problem, but just dont like it much.
I'll see if i can dig my thread out Edit: here is one post about it http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...0&postcount=22 |

OP, you're doing it all wrong.
Throw it at the wall, then you know it's done. |
