If Brian hadn't won UBB, would he still be the C5 host?

It was obviously Brians epic performances on The Mint that got him the job lol.

Great thread but I like Davina McCall and Brian Dowling, both shows my have the same name but are different and they both suit their own channel.

I like Brian as a host but it's just not the same anymore without Davina

Anyone for Vaness Feltz or John McCririck as host as they were also TV presenters and UBB contestants?

I don't think the idea the spot would've gone to whoever won UBB holds much water.
That wasn't even the point being made.

The point was would Brian have been made host had he not won UBB. I think he might still have been made host anyway, but him winning UBB made him even more likely.

I myself believe that WHOEVER won UBB would have been the next presenter. So Nikki was very close to taking it. The end of UBB, Brian sort of interviewed Davina in the last few minutes and I automatically thought, "If there is another series, I am positive he will present it". Imagine Nikki interviewing housemates
I wish Makosi or Nadia would've won.

They would've been flawless presenters <3 Two of the best housemates of all time.

I know these posts are a while ago now, but are you people really being serious? Nikki has been in the public eye for ages now. All her presenting she's done I think was with BBLB. She wasn't very good. That was recorded too. If she had any talent for presenting surely she'd be doing it, same with Makosi.

Live TV is a really hard and technical business, throw in a baying crowd and pressure of Producers screaming down their ears. Do you really think Channel5 and Endemol would entrust their flagship show with someone who'd never done it properly before. Nikki, Josie, Makosi, you really are inviting the next xezi Ifore (sp), to present a prime-time show.

OMG can you imagine her doing the interviews?!
Yes, and not in a good way.
I think Brian would've been in with a shout regardless, having had some prior presenting experience and being a hugely popular ex-HM at the time. I don't think the idea the spot would've gone to whoever won UBB holds much water.
Oh definitely. He's not Jeremy Paxman, but he has done a lot of tv work. He seemed nervous at first, but actually I think he's been pretty good. Ch 5 obviously wanted light-hearted exit interviews, and I agree with them. He can do that. No presenter on earth could have made much of, for example, Becky's nervous babble last year.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!! *emigrates to North Korea*

You do realise I was joking? (well about the "I wish they won because they'd be flawless presenters bit", but they're still 2 of the best HM's ever)

It's an interesting question. If Brian had lost UBB, would that have worked against him when C5/Endemol were deciding who should present BB? And if so, would it have made enough difference that he didn't get the job? Well, I've broken it into two parts ... to which I think the answers are "yes" and "probably not". So I think they still would have given him the job if he'd lost. But not if UBB had been as bad for him as it was for, say, Nadia. His popularity with BB viewers has to be a big factor, because he's not a good presenter.

He really isn't. He's wooden and always seems to be following a script. He seems to have no significant interviewing skills. Davina could be pretty bad, but he's much worse. (And what's with the ill-fitting suits?)

Still, perhaps BB doesn't need a good presenter. The American one, I hear, is presented by a robot.

A robot, but a professional robot.

Campness has never been entertaining to me anyway, and I feel he just uses it to try and cover up his lack of presenting skills.

Well, given that the OP said that Brian only got the job because he won BB, followed by the OP saying that, if Josie had won she'd be hosting BB, I think it was reasonable to assume that that was the point being made (even if it wasn't). In any case, I was addressing a belief that has been expressed on here before, and, ironically, in this thread:

I myself believe that WHOEVER won UBB would have been the next presenter. So Nikki was very close to taking it. I guess we can all be glad that Nadia didn't win UBB then

Would have been interesting if Nick Bateman had won, wonder what he'd be like as a presenter - it'd have a more serious tone I feel, perhaps not a bad thing
