http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...-snobbery.html

Whats he going on about?

He's nominated for Best Male at the Brits

They asked him to perform last year, which to be fair in comparison Mr Will Young should have been asked long before him.

Radio and TV play him practically night and day!

I'd say thats respect enough, no ones going to bow down to you! He's had it lucky rather than some of the others! We get it he's got 3 albums that have sold 800,000 ish or will have. Will Young sold
From Now On 800,000
Fridays Child 1,600,000
Keep On 1,000,000

Now why do i keep comparing Will to Olly. They're both male reality tv show successes thats why. Will's never complained about all this, IMO Will makes much better credible music and has an astonishingly amazing voice better than Olly's but Olly's always complaining about this respect thing...so annoys me.

Honestly!

PS I do like Olly's music though, all his 3 albums are very good. His music fits a niche and he could even be the successor to Robbie Williams. I just don't see why he's saying all this it seems really ungreatful, with the type of music he does you're hardly going to gain critics respect but even then he's up for a Brit and got radio playing him all the time..and supporting Robbie on a huge stadium tour. Dance With Me Tonight remains one of my fave songs of this decade...so i think he's ruining it for himself.!

And yet there's thousands of unheard musicians/singers who have sold a fraction of what Olly has sold, would dream of playing the venues he plays in yet remain grounded, humble and hardworking. If you want respect in the music industry Olly then start releasing something that can be regarded as 'classic' not just another number one that will get you even more record sales that you obviously don't appreciate.

Didn't he once win a tenner on Deal Or No Deal? You'd think some people would appreciate what they have :/

He thinks because of his sales he deserves respect? He's an idiot.

Maybe just the sun doing the talking here. I think Olly could do so much better. He is never going to be able to ever challenge Will young as will is on another level. Olly need's stronger song's. Even his hit's are really poor and weak.

So the lack of success is down to somebody else? Perhaps if he wrote them himself he wouldn't have that problem...

The musicians/artists out there with the most respect are those that write and perform their own.

Why does he deserve respect? He's a cheesy karaoke crooner who got very lucky. he should be thanking his lucky stars every day rather than whining

Agree, although because he is not capable of writing his own songs he needs to find writers that can supply him with stronger ones. The charts are full of singers that don't write there own material olly being one of them.

I get Will Murs and Olly Young mixed up, they both release that middle of the road crap that seems to be the staple of Radio 2 playlist. Cliff Richards heir and spare to his throne.

Will's music is alot more mature and creative. Olly's music is more cool and young. I think Will's far superior.

To be fair Olly did co-write some of his songs i think.

It's just a ridicuous thing to come out with, it does sound like something he would say and he's said similar things before too so i believe it. Obviously he was given a leading question but still..someone with a Brit Best Male nomination, one of the most played artists last year on radio and performed at the Brits last year shouldn't be moaning about lack of respect from the industry! What more do you want!? You cannot be admitted in the Hall Of Fame already Olly!! I think he'll end up being one of the biggest reality tv successes alongside GA and Will but he's got a USA career launch, supporting Robbie on tour in stadiums...this is not a time to be moaning!

Will Young deserves a lot more respect to be honest, and i'm bemused at the last two posts - they're nothing alike apart from the fact they came from reality tv. Will is not middle of the road, thank you very much. Have you actual listened to his music...let me guess you like rock music?

He is so annoying! Not to mention his music is naff. I probably would have loved it if I was about 12.

It's none of the things you're saying, all he is saying is that it'd mean a lot to him if he won.

I think this Sun article has been taken slightly out of context to what Olly's said, I wouldn't say he's moaning. I'm a fan of Olly's and Will's but for the OP to start comparing the two when they're both at vastly different stages in their careers is a little unfair. I should remind you all that Will himself faced the exact same kind of snobbery Olly's talking about now during his second and third album releases and he was depressed about how he felt he was looked unfavourably upon by the 'serious' musos of the industry because of where he'd got his start. Girls Aloud also went through the exact same thing at the start of their career as well when they were basically the only decent girl group around apart from Sugababes when they weren't changing lineups for the umpteenth time, and they didn't really properly get recognition until the last couple of years they had before their hiatus when they won their BRIT and supported Coldplay at Wembley Stadium.

Olly's always said that he's grateful for the success he's had but he's right in terms of that certain people in the industry don't give him credit where it is due because they have a pre conceived idea he's 'had it easy' coming from a talent show like X Factor. And it is unfair. When in reality, it's little to do with coming from a show like that and it's about the artist you become and the following you build for yourself once the cameras stop rolling and the show finishes, and how hard you're prepared to work. And regardless of whether or not you think he has talent, he has worked hard and Olly's statistics speak for themselves. He's still the only act to have come from X Factor who's sold more copies of their second album than their first. He plays the festivals as well as his own regular gigs and he has always tried to maintain a broad appeal. Could One Direction profess the same? I think not.

And also if you saw his ITV2 show he did about his tour last year you'll know that he's not always been 100% confident about his capacity as a performer because he only started singing professionally when he was 23. He was singing in pubs in Essex with no connections to the industry. Will didn't have any either when he went for Pop Idol. Or is it just one exception to the rule? When Olly performed at the BRITs last year he was right in the middle of his arena tour and he said himself in hindsight he didn't feel prepared enough because of how tight his schedule was. And if you saw his reaction to the likes of Dappy and other artists slagging him off on Twitter he was visibly upset by it all. He knows he's not perfect and he never professes to be - and I know this having met Olly a few times. He's incredibly grounded and his passion for performing and making music has always shined through. People need to cut him some slack.

I don't think so, he's said similar stuff loads of times before.

He's that arrogant in lots of interviews, always going on about his sales and how talented he is. He's in in for the fame game and the riches,it's so obvious. I don't know what he's moaning about anyway, he's got a Brits nomination now and a performance slot last year which many of his superior talent show peers have never got..and he ruined the chance with a mediocre embarrassing performance. I agree Will young should have got that slot with Jealousy-Will who has never been asked to perform in 11 years and have we heard him moaning to the press?
Olly is as much a 'musician' as Rylan and his ilk. He got lucky.

Great post, spot on.

People talk about how wonderful he is with his fans but I reckon it's all false just to get the sales. The words to his upcoming single are laughable, mind you so many of the lyrics to his stuff are.

When I saw his dad on twitter telling school kids to go on their laptops before school and download his latest single I was disgusted.
