This Is 40 Surprisingly Long
Just checked how long it was and without adverts it's 2 Hours 14 minutes, which means 2 hours 30 minutes (134 Minutes) in Cineworld Cinema's.
I am not complaining as I like comedy movies but it does seem very long. Normally these films are between 90 - 120 minutes. |

Yes, Judd Apatow suffers from similar issues to Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino, he doesn't know how to cut and ends up damaging good films in the process...

No, the last film he directed, Funny People was 2 and a half hours long with an extended cut running 2 hours 40 mins, as well as deleted scenes...
But then Tarantino does do deleted scenes, admittedly not many, but there was one or two for Inglourious... |

Funny People was awful. Way too long. Ruined the good scenes it did have.

This Is 40 was slightly better than the atrocious Funny People but both films are quite terrible.
Very little references to knocked up, which might have redeemed it. |

Mark Kermode calls this movie "This is 40 minutes too long".
He also calls "I give it a year" "I'd give it a miss" Kermode - comedy gold. |

Hated this movie - very poor and lazy with thoroughly unlikeable characters especially Charlyne Yi who plays Jodi - I wanted to punch her!

Guess I'm the only person in the world that liked both Funny People and This is 40, and thought Knocked Up was so so... |

Yes, you must be the only person in the world...
Knocked Up was brilliant but Funny People and This is 40 were in my opinion, too long and a waste of time. This is 40 had two funny moments and they both involved Jodi. Also the bit where Paul Rudd wants Leslie Mann to check for hemorrhoids Judd's daughters are very good actresses. |

Going to see this tonight. Slightly apprehensive about how long it's on for but I do love Judd Apatows films so thought I'd give it a go.

he's right about Give it a Year , This is 40 doesn't feel too long , it's pretty good , Funny People felt like it was about 4 hours long .

I like the long length of these flicks personally. Gives more time with the characters and chance to develop them into something more than most comedy films have time for.
I've heard many people talk about their love for this film more than I've heard people stress their dislike of it so that should say something. |

The main complaint I've heard is that they aren't poor poor, they're American poor (a lot of complaints were about the size of their house - All American houses are massive, they don't really do terraces), and Paul Rudd isn't fat enough...

I thought it was alright. Not one of the best Apatow films but definitely not one of the worst. It did go on a bit, but it wasn't unbearable. The two girls (Maude & Iris Apatow - who are Leslie Mann's daughters in real life, with husband Judd
) were brilliant. I may be a tad biased because I generally love Apatows films but yeah I did think it was 'alright' - not brilliant but not poor either.

He DOES NOT do comedy very well. He applies his narrow sense of humour to everything and he ends up writing off perfectly good comedies because of it.
So The Hangover, wasn't original (I don't think anybody said it was, but according to Kermode they did), but it was still a good comedy. Kermode hated it. Pineapple Express - admittedly not the greatest film, but it wasn't as bad as he made it sound either. |

hes ok but everyone is a critic, why some are held in higher esteem than others is nonsense as the only critic you should care about is yourself.
to be a well known critic it seems apparent you have to sap the fun out of everything so ill stick to liking what i like no matter what some random guy says |

Also, Pineapple Express was written and produced by Apatow himself. If you're going to slag the film off at least get your facts correct. |
