Thanks, I didn't realise. I have a friend who has just been told her 6 years are up, but she obviously didn't explain herself very well! As far as I am aware though, my friend didn't have to pay back a penny, but then again, she didn't owe HM Revenue & Customs nearly half a million quid!!

Still think Martine should have paid her tax bill when she had the money (like the rest of us have to!!) - and she must have had the money to have run up a bill so high. No sympathy from me on that score.

I believe at the time she was meant to be earning something like £18000 a night. When you turn your nose up at that kind of money and that kind of opportunity given to you by one of the richest and most powerful men in stage and screen production, Sir Cameron Mackintosh. I got the DVD for Love Actually and they made some very unflattering comments about Martine. I think she is stage school trained and totally undisciplined. It takes a lot of self discipline to appear in the West End EVERY NIGHT compared to something like EastEnders. You have to be professional, remember your lines and act!! I think Martine has always played herself so really acting must have been a challenge. Her character in Love Actually was hardly difficult!! Not exactly an Oscar worthy performance. I think she was shocked by how much work the West End production was as she has never done another show, or perhaps, after the fiasco she never got the chance to do another West End show.

I thought when you were bankrupt you had to avoid credit, business etc for FIVE YEARS not just one year? If it is only ONE YEAR perhaps we should all go bankrupt, seems easier than actually having to pay your debts and be responsible. Go mad on the credit card, have fun and then say sorry, have to declare myself bankrupt!!! There is obviously no shame in it anymore.

Oh DO TELL!! I hate all this Hollywood nonsense of how everyone gets on fabulously well in all these productions, movies etc when we all know half of the "she was marvelous" stories are absolute rubbish!!!

I don't know the full ins and outs of it, but the bankruptcy order is discharged after a year, as long as you keep to the terms - I seem to recall our Kerry (Katona) didn't, and so the insolvency people ended up having to extend it for a period. After the discharge, it, and any other insolvency items or any type of bad credit will show on a credit rating for six years.

As for Martine, that level of financial mismanagement sickens me. I used to deal with it on a daily basis, so my empathy always went to the people who'd lost their job, or they'd split with a partner, and not some spoilt idiot who thought designer shoes were more important than their mortgage or tax bill.

Unfortunately there's been a massive dumbing down of the theatre over the last ten years or so with this increasing trend to cast talentless ex soapies in West End shows not because they're any good but to get soap fans' bums on seats.

Well it has been known for managers or agents to cream off what they say they've paid in taxes for an artist. Could be years before the artist finds out.

Sting got stung to the tune of £4.8m by his personal accountant, who made unknown investmestments.

I don't believe that happened in this case but a number of celebs and Kerry Katonna seem to have had trouble paying their tax in recent times.

Most reviews and reactions from the public to Martine's appearance in My Fair Lady were very positive. The general feedback seemed to be that she was very good when she appeared, it's just that she didn't appear that much!

I have to say, no way on earth was Martine's novel ghost written as no ghost writer wouldve written that badly!!

It was excruciatingly bad!

Naturally most people who saw the show liked it because they were mainly soap fans who were only there because she was in it. Apparently she had huge problems talking posh when it was required, sounding no different to the Eliza Doolittle Higgins first discovers (rather like her pitiful attempt and failure to do a posh accent when playing an ex pupil of an exclusive private school in her now infamous pre opening credits appearance in Midsomer).

With regard to the Olivier Award, this was more in recognition of the commercial success of the show rather than any talent demonstrated by La McCutcheon. Jonathan Pryce's look of disgust and dismay when she won the award is more typical of the views held by genuine theatre folk.
