'Classic' Episodes Of Soaps
Thought I'd try and liven up the Soap forum a bit
. How many people here watch 'classic' episodes of soaps across channels such as Granada Plus, UK Gold and Sky One? Personally, I watch 3 'new' soaps, Corrie, Brookie and 'Enders and 2 'classic' soaps, Brookie on Sky One and Corrie on Granada Plus. Brookie on Sky One is currently at '95, and is excellent. The mid-nineties were Brookie's finest hour IMO, with one controversial storyline after another. The stories were much better, the characters were better, the acting was better, the script was better and it was just brilliant to watch, being quite a 'masculine' soap with gangsters etc. It really is great at the moment and would recommend it to anyone, it's far better than the new eps of Brookie. I have just got back into Corrie on Granada Plus, which is currently at '89 and is also pretty good. Gail and Martin are just getting together, and I don't really remember watching these eps as I was 5 at the time. It's much lighter and funnier than the current 'let's try to copy EastEnders' Corrie which fails miserably IMO. Overall enjoyable to watch. Although I watch the new EastEnders which I think is great at the moment with the Slaters et al, I don't watch the 1997 eps on UK Gold 'cos I don't think they're all that great. I did watch a few a couple of weeks back thinking I might get back into it but I found it a bit tedious. So what does everyone else watch and what do you think? |

Could you fill me in a bit on what Alan Bradley did, as I only started watching Classic Corrie again last week. Last time I watched it it was on January 1989, it's now around Sept/Oct. Last time I watched it Alan was just starting to get nasty with a woman in the burgler alarm shop. I know he dies at the end of 1989 under a Blackpool tram, I've seen that clip many times, but what sort of things did he actually do?

He stole Rita's deeds to number 7 to buy out the shop and used Len's name and when Rita found out, she told him and he tried to kill her with a cusion but luckily Martin and Jenny walked in. He ran off but was caught and he is now in jail. You can find a listing of all Classic Episodes on G+ Here though the descriptions don;t curretnally go past the end of march (though the listings telling you the date it's shown on G+ and the date it was originally shown run up until the middle of july).

I sometimes watch classic EastEnders on UK GOLD, but i wish they would go back to the start, they are too recent now!
Wouldn't watch any of the other soaps, although id like to see that bloke getting run over by a tram, although i have no idea who he is

They were "too recent" before. In June 1996 UK Gold got to EE in June 1995 (and you call UK Gold now recent?) which then was too close to BBC1 (Would it be now? Doubt it) so there was no EE on UK Gold for 3 months. it then started at the beginnign from September, sadly editing out the credits on a regurlar basis until 1999 when they started to find their way back in, until around late 2000 when they have been shown all the time.

Yep, I'm looking forward to that! Have you noticed, on the Sky EPG at least, they've stopped calling it 'Classic Coronation Street' and it's now just 'Coronation Street'. Wonder why? Probably just to be more like old soaps on other channels, but I liked it being called that as it was more original than just being called the name of the soap.

It's changed on Gplus.co.uk and on the trails on the channel though Digiguide and NTL still say Classic Coronation Street.

Maybe they've stopped calling it classic as it is now in 1989 (I think). Remember Corrie is over 40 years old and 12/13 years ago is not that classic compared to 20-40 years ago.

Have you people nothing better to do with your life's?
I am appalled at the amount of Terrestrial television time devoted soaps, let alone how much PAY TV is devoted to soaps. By the way I watch Eastenders every day except Thursdays, Neighbours everyday, doctors everyday and the other soaps when they feature juicy storylines or when there's nothing else on.

Yeah, I noticed too it was still Classic Corrie on Digiguide, but that isn't updated as often as EPGs. Good to see ntl: up to date as ever with their EPG
. James, you really should go on Discovery Mastermind, specialist topic 'Soap Operas' if they make another series! Is there anything you don't know? Sparkster I suppose that's a fair point that it's not so 'classic' anymore. Mew, what a hypocrite
