Galaxy S3 - always shows 1 new message on icon
Since yesterday, my Galaxy S3 (unlocked/unbranded UK model, updated to latest stock firmware) shows 1 unread message on the yellow envelope icon - even if there are no messages or indeed 2 or more. I've tried rebooting, clearing the app cache, force closing, disabling and re-enabling the app, clearing the app data, deleting all messages, everything, but the problem won't go away - a little number 1 next to the icon, no matter how many messages I have. This happens on the homescreen and app grid screens but not on the lockscreen.
Any ideas? I don't want to factory reset unless absolutely necessary! |

I know you may have tried it anyway but have you tried pulling the notification bar down and opening it that way (instead of through messages/EMAILS)?
Sorry but don't know what else it could be if not that. |

Try going into apps manager and force stop Messaging, then clear cache.

Try this
Go to Settings > Application Manager > All applications (on the top). Locate the "BadgeProvider" app, once in there select "clear data" you need to restart the phone after that apparently. only other solutions I can find are a factory reset. http://www.askmefast.com/Samsung_gal....html#q2250193 |

Nope, wouldn't know how to either! IS that safe to do? My phone isn't rooted
i don't have my S3 any more but if memory serves, you can wipe the cache in the stock recovery mode and - i think - the dalvik cache as well. Do these two ONLY if you're unsure of what you're doing. I don't know if it will necessarily solve the problem but it's one of the only other things I could think of. |
