66 (41) Karl Munro 2.87% (Round 1)
Karl Munro takes a big drop in rankings, and ends up rock bottom of this years countdown. Karl has featured a lot more in big storylines since the countdown last year, including his gambling addiction, affair with Sunita and break up with Stella. This increased screen time as probably been his downfall as he’s come across as thoroughly unpleasant character, and not a terribly well written one either, and I would say this bottom ranking isn’t that undeserved. Will Karl be able to redeem himself and take a rise in the rankings next year? 65 (66) Asha Alahan 3.24% (Round 1) Next up is the ever popular daughter of Dev and Sunita, Asha Alahan! Since the competition started this is the first time Asha has managed to avoid bottom place, although it is only by one placing! Asha’s had slightly more screentime this year due to the storylines between Dev/Karl/Sunita being at the forefront of the soap, however most of her scenes have just been expressing her hate for Karl, (which is probably what got her the higher ranking considering what you guys think of him!) however she still hasn’t really properly developed into a character. 64 (N/A) Mandy Kamara 3.37% (Round 1) At 64 and the first of the new characters, we have Rovers chef and occasional barmaid Mandy Kamara! Mandy started off with a bang with her big storyline including old flame Lloyd and daughter Jenna, however since then she’s become a bit more redundant and just seems to appear in the background of scenes or getting involved in other people’s storylines. For me, Mandy is such an awful character that I find her somewhat funny, the writing for her is absolutely atrocious and the actress’s delivery is even worse, you can’t help but cringe! Will Mandy be able to improve her ranking next year? Or will she even be able to survive the year without getting axed? 63 (64) Aadi Alahan 3.39% (Round 1) At 63 is the next of the Alahans’ twins, Aadi Alahan! There’s not really much I can say about Aadi that I haven’t already said about Asha, as they are essentially the same character and haven’t really developed into proper characters yet. Strangely every year since the competition has begun, Aadi has placed 2 places higher than Asha, perhaps it’s the golf storyline that did it? It will be interesting to see where the twins are at next year, they’ll either have left Weatherfield or have lost their mum…62 (62) Liam Connor Jr 3.42% (Round 1) Next up and standing still in the rankings, it’s Maria’s son Liam Connor Jr! Despite going through a face change this year, Liam still takes his place as the quietest of the kids. Without meaning to, he’s actually had quite a big part in the Marcus and Maria storyline, as it was Liam who had originally drawn Marcus to Maria and was part of the reason for him staying. I’m struggling to say anything else as Liam really doesn’t do much, and I think it’s pretty telling that he’s ranked above adult characters such Karl and Mandy ![]() 61 (N/A) Jenna Kamara 3.66% (Round 1) Just missing out on the top 60, we have the next of our new characters, Jenna Kamara! Jenna’s a strange one for me, I really didn’t like her when she first came, I just found her to be dull and grumpy and thought she had absolutely no chemistry with Sophie. I still think she lacks any chemistry with Sophie, however I actually found myself really sympathizing with her whilst coming out, and am actually starting to enjoy her as a character. I don’t think Krissi Bohn’s that bad an actress either. Does Jenna have the potential to get a higher ranking next year? After all this was the ranking that Kirsty got last year, and look where she is now

60 (65) Faye Windass 3.69% (Round 1)
In at 60, and with a 5 point rise, it’s Faye Windass! I like the concept of Faye as a character, but she doesn’t really do anything for me as a character, I don’t think the actress is too great either. Faye was had a relatively busy year with her establishing herself into the Windass/Armstrong unit, bullying storyline and more recently the storyline with her coming into contact with her biological dad. What will 2013 bring for the character of Faye? |

59 (49) Dev Alahan 4.17% (Round 1)
At 59 and with a drop of 10 places, we have Dev Alahan! Dev is one of my least favourite characters so I’m pleased to see him drop this much He’s probably had slightly more screentime this year however that seems to be to his detriment, as it’s just reminded us what a bad character he is! To be honest I think Dev could be an alright character, however Jimmi Harkishin is just a painfully bad actor and makes the character a whole lot worse There has been a change of direction for the character of Dev in the past year after being betrayed by Sunita, as he has found himself single and living a bachelor lifestyle. Will Dev be able to improve his ranking next year?

58 (60) Sean Tully 4.25% (Round 1)
Next up is my LEAST favourite character, Sean Tully! Sean has moved up 2 places in the rankings this year, which is pretty surprising considering I think he’s come across as more loathsome than ever this year! His main storylines of 2012 have involved his break up with Marcus, and the storylines that have followed it. I think he came across absolutely awfully in the whole Marcus/Maria storyline, it had nothing to do with him yet he tried to make himself the victim, and it just reinforced why I hate him so much for me. I think the fact that Anthony Cotton is such an awful actor doesn’t help either. Will Sean be able to rise in the rankings next year? Personally I’m hoping he won’t even be around to take part in the competition next year

57 (37) Sunita Alahan 5.00% (Round 1)
At 57, and with a massive drop of 20, it’s Sunita Alahan! Sunita’s had a bit of a rough year so this drop is kinda to be expected. After starting off the year as the nice and caring Sunita that she originally was, she became the ultimate bunny boiler after starting an affair with Karl, and coming across as thoroughly unpleasant. I think the fact that at 57 Sunita is the highest placed character involved in the competition this year is pretty telling of how the storyline’s been received on DS, and I think although Dev’s not exactly the most popular character here, the placing of Sunita with Karl was pretty awful and it’s probably for the best that she’s leaving later this year and this will be the last time she’ll be eligible to take part in the competition. It’s a shame as Sunita was once a popular character, placing in the top 30 in the 2011 version of this competition! |

56 (56) Amy Barlow 5.01% (Round 1)
In 56th place and the first character so far to stand still in the rankings, it’s Amy Barlow! I’ve always liked the character of Amy, she’s one of my favourites amongst the child characters and I find the actress really cute! However she hasn’t really done anything of note over the past year so this ranking is pretty deserved. She’s mostly been used as a mechanism for even more conflict between Steve and Tracy this year, what will 2013 bring for Amy? |

55 (63) Max Turner 5.57% (Round 1)
In 55th place, and with a slight rise, it’s the next of the child characters, Max Turner! David and Kylie have been at the forefront of the show recently which might explain Max’s rise, as like most of the other child characters, he’s a bit non descript. I do think Max is probably the cutest out of all the kids however! How will Max react to the inevitable ups and downs of Kylie and David’s marriage that will occur in 2013? |

54 (59) Paul Kershaw 5.92% (Round 1)
In 54th place we have Paul Kershaw! I really don’t like the relationship between Paul and Eileen, I think the character of Eileen is probably better without a man, however especially not one as dull and unsuited to her as Paul! I think Paul’s alright as a character, he’s just a bit dull and inoffensive and kind of blends into the background in the scenes he’s in. Paul had a big start to the year with the storylines surrounding his wife with alzheimer’s, Lesley. However since then he hasn’t really done much and hasn’t seemed to interact with the rest of the street that well, |

53 (50) Chesney Brown 6.00% (Round 1)
Next up and with his 2nd drop in a row, it’s Chesney Brown! I think the fact that Chesney keeps dropping shows how the character is wearing a bit more thin as he gets older, and the character hasn’t really changed too much since last year, despite becoming a father! I think if I’d started this poll a few years ago Chesney would have been a lot higher, as he was pretty popular as a child, however he went down the route that Simon seems to be going down now, and the character doesn’t really work as an adult. Most of his storylines in the past year have involved his relationship with Katy and his son Joseph, however with it looking like there is set to be some troubles in their relationship, how will Chesney react? |

52 (N/A) Craig Tinker 6.82% (Round 1)
Debuting at 52, it’s our 3rd new character in the countdown, Craig Tinker! Despite this appearing to be quite a low spot, it’s pretty good considering the limited screentime Craig has had so far, and it’s also the placing his mother Beth got in the competition last year, so will Craig go in the same way she did this year? I have to say I really like the character of Craig, I find him funny and I love the way he’s business savvy, him and Kirk selling the turkeys was great to watch and their relationship looks like one to look out for! I don’t think the actor’s half bad either, will Craig be able to climb the rankings next year? |

51 (23) Simon Barlow 6.89% (Round 1)
Just missing out on the top 50 and with a massive drop in rankings, it’s Simon Barlow! There’s been a big turnaround regarding Simon in the past year, he made the top 30 in both of the past 2 years competition and most of the viewers found him cute and praised Alex Bain’s acting skills. However this year the character appears to be wearing a little bit thin, with people starting to find the character extremely irritating and precocious. I do think some posters go a bit far with their criticism’s of Simon, and I still think Alex Bain is a good actor, however the character has started to become pretty unlikeable over the past few months. Will Simon be able to win our heart’s back in time for next years competition? I have to go for a bit now, will post some more results later!

Next batch of results...
50 (N/A) Ryan Connor 6.94% (Round 1) Just hitting the top 50 is the next of our newcomers, Ryan Connor. The recasting and reimagining of the character wasn’t exactly popular at first on DS, however I think Ryan now seems to be growing on quite a few people, which explains why he’s ranked higher than I was initially anticipating! Ryan started off as quite an aspirational character for men around his age, he was pretty charming and seemed to have a lot of luck with the ladies, however he seems to be going down the same route as Tommy Duckworth now, and has become somewhat more of a ‘loser’ character and his storylines appear to be drying up as well. What will 2013 bring for the character of Ryan? |

49 (53) Brian Packham 7.46% (Round 1)
At 49 and with a bit of a rise, it’s Bessie Street headmaster Brian Packham! I don’t think I was a fan of Brian at the time of the competition last year, however I’ve kinda grown to like him. I appreciate him more as a character and actually find him quite funny at times. However he hasn’t really had a proper storyline of himself yet, only smaller storylines such as the storylines regarding the school. Will Brian take a bigger role in 2013? |

48 (39) Owen Armstrong 7.48% (Round 1)
In 48th and with a 9 place drop, we have Owen Armstrong. I think Owen’s a pretty good character and he’s played by a pretty good actor, however he’s a tad unlikeable which probably explains this ranking. 2012 saw him taking a new direction as he started a relationship with Anna Windass and a new family unit with the Armstrong’s, Windass’ and Brown’s was established, which has been the basis of most of his storylines. Will Owen win over the hearts of the viewers as the year goes on? |

47 (N/A) Rob Donovan 7.77% (Round 1)
Next up and the next of our new characters, it’s Rob Donovan! This is actually higher than the ranking I was expecting him, however there have been a few threads with people saying that he’s won them over. I still find the character of Rob completely unlikeable, he’s so annoyingly smug and I hate the way he thinks he can come out of prison and instantly own the street I loved when Carla ruined that for him and kicked out of Underworld, however annoyingly he’s now become joint owner! A good thing about the character of Rob is that he has stayed at the forefront of the show since his entrance, and hasn’t become sidelined like some of the other newcomers. Will this continue throughout 2013?

46 (35) Izzy Armstrong 7.80% (Round 1)
At 46 and with quite a big drop, it’s Izzy Armstrong! I really like the character of Izzy and I like how she’s developed since first entering the soap, however I think the whole storyline regarding her desire for a baby hasn’t exactly been the most popular storyline, and it’s kinda highlighted that Cherylee Houston isn’t exactly the best actress in the world. Despite this she has had quite a main role over the part year, will this continue in 2013? |

45 (N/A) Gloria Price 7.93% (Round 1)
At 45 we have the next of our newcomers, Gloria Price! I’m not really sure how I feel towards the character of Gloria at the moment, there’s times when I think she’s absolutely brilliant, and other times when I’m not so sure. It is early days for the character however, and with her being on a break, there’s still a long way for her to go. Most of Gloria’s storylines have involved her relationship with her daughter Stella and what troubles she has brought her, how will the character develop throughout 2013? |

44 (34) Katy Armstrong 7.93% (Round 1)
In 44th place, and with a ten place drop, it’s Katy Armstrong! It seems like becoming parents hasn’t been that great for Katy and Chesney, as they’ve both had quite noticeable drops, however Katy still manages to do a lot better than how she did in the 2011 competition, where she ended up 4th from bottom! I think Katy’s a pretty good character, she’s definitely got a good heart and is probably one of the nice characters in the whole soap, however I don’t think she’s shown much depth which might explain why she’s a bit lower. I also think Georgia May Foote is a pretty good actress, which the show doesn’t seem to utilize, will that change over the coming year? |
