47 (N/A) Rob Donovan 7.77% (Round 1)
Next up and the next of our new characters, it’s Rob Donovan! This is actually higher than the ranking I was expecting him, however there have been a few threads with people saying that he’s won them over. I still find the character of Rob completely unlikeable, he’s so annoyingly smug and I hate the way he thinks he can come out of prison and instantly own the street I loved when Carla ruined that for him and kicked out of Underworld, however annoyingly he’s now become joint owner! A good thing about the character of Rob is that he has stayed at the forefront of the show since his entrance, and hasn’t become sidelined like some of the other newcomers. Will this continue throughout 2013? |

Kicking off the top 15...15 (19) Tyrone Dobbs 4.7% (Top 15) In 15th place and with his highest placing to date, we have Tyrone Dobbs! Tyrone's had one of the biggest years out of all the characters, with his storyline involving him being the victim to Kirsty Soames' domestic abuse being one of the biggest Corrie storylines in years. Before the affair started there was lots of sympathy for Tyrone going round and I think if this competition had happened a few months earlier, Tyrone would have likely made the top 10 and been a strong contender to win! I do think the affair has hurt his chances and made him a little less likeable to the viewers, however this is his best ranking to date. And the storyline has really shown the viewers what Alan Halsall can do as an actor, leading to his recent NTA win! What will the coming year bring for Tyrone? |

14 (11) Gail McIntyre 5.66% (Top 15)
Next up and surprisingly with a slight drop it's Gail McIntyre! Gail had a much bigger year than the previous year so I was expecting her to do better and possibly make the top 10, however her most recent storyline has made some viewers see her as a little unlikeable so that could explain it. Most of Gail's year has been Lewis centered, with her going from completely despising him and doing everything possible to end his relationship with her mother Audrey, to falling in love and ending up being conned for 40 grand! Gail is one of the longest standing characters left on the show and I really do think she is one of the Corrie greats, so even though she had a bit of a drop it's great to see her still do well in this competition, especially as I think she struggled to make the top 30 2 years ago! What's next for the character of Gail? |

13 (5) Peter Barlow 5.90% (Top 15)
One of the maybe more shocking results is Peter Barlow only coming 13th, especially as before this he had never dropped out of the top 5! I think Peter is a great character, he's had some brilliant storylines over the years and Chris Gascoyne is one of the best actors currently on the show. However I feel that he's become a tad unlikeable recently, which might explain why his ranking is a little lower. He also spent quite a lot of the year off screen, which might have hurt his storylines. Peter did however have an explosive start to the year, with all the drama surrounding Frank and Carla, and his affair with Carla being revealed, leading to the breakdown of his marriage with Leanne. Peter and Carla were probably the two most heavily featured at the beginning of the year, however the actors took a break meaning they were both offscreen for a large part of the year, and his return has been slightly low screen with the biggest event yet to happen was him trying to get back with Leanne on christmas eve. What position will Peter be in this time next year? |

12 (9) Steve McDonald 5.92% (Top 15)
Next up and dropping out of the top 10 for the first time, we have Steve McDonald! I was really surprised Steve didn't make the top 10 this year as in the first 2 rounds he topped both his heats with quite a large margin and looked like a strong contender to win the whole thing, although I was surprised about that itself as I don't think he's had his strongest year Steve started the year getting married to Tracy, however the fell apart on the day of the wedding day after it was revealed that Tracy lied about Becky pushing her down the stairs and causing her miscarriage. Since then Tracy has tried anything to get Steve back, however he's now moved on to old flame Michelle Connor, although Tracy certainly hasn't made that easy for him, even starting a relationship with Michelle's son Ryan! Steve is a great character, however I've started to find him a little irritating at times so this is probably the right ranking for me. Will Steve be able to regain his top 10 placing next year?

Amazed at Peter and Steve's relatively low positions.
![]() Trouble is, we DS-ers are a fickle lot, so it's a combination of 'out of sight, out of mind' and 'I don't like what he did there so I won't vote for him, irrespective of what he's done over the last 20 years'.

11 (8) Rita Tanner 6.01% (Top 15)
Just missing out on a coveted place in the top 10, it's Coronation Street legend Rita Tanner! I did expect Rita to make the top 10 as she's usually considered to be one of the all time Corrie greats, however people are voting for their favourite current Corrie character and she does less now than she did in the earlier years. Rita found happiness this year, after being reunited with old flame Dennis Tanner, she married him on the jubilee! They appear to be happily married now and Rita has had smaller storylines since then, often appearing in scenes with the other old characters. However Rita never fails to steal a scene, and she really is one of my favourite characters so I was slightly disappointed with her ranking, however there are lots of great Corrie characters and I think she just got a bit left behind in the top 15! Will she be able to make top 10 again next year? |

..I think that Tyrone has been brilliant in the Kirsty SL and I agree that his affair with Fizz has diluted some sympathetic feelings for him - also I am not a big fan of Fizz so in my case she has ruined this SL.

![]() I am pleased Audrey's character has arrived quite high even though not in the top ten. Emily's I would have liked to be higher, too. Both Tirrone and Fizzy's characters were ruined for me solely because the writers took the storyline the wrong way; it should have included only Tirrone and Kirsty - fabulous actress is Natalie - without Fizzy. I have hardly ever liked the bigamist; only when he made Leanne happy for a while, and shall never forget when he ran / hobbled after her at the station. |

10 (3) Leanne Tilsley 511 Points (Final Round)
Kicking off the top 10, and dropping out of the top 5 for the first time, we have Leanne Tilsley! I'm actually surprised Leanne was able to make the top 10, there's been a bit of a backlash for Leanne on DS, lots of people have showed their annoyance at her being portrayed as 'Saint Leanne' and lots of people have turned against her. Leanne is one of my favourite characters and I was even starting to go off her at one point, however I think it was the Christmas Eve episode where Leanne went back to her Battersby routes, made me realise how much I love Leanne and how much of an amazing character she's been, and how much she's changed and developed since she first joined! Leanne has been one of the characters at the forefront of the show in recent years and once again had a pretty big year, starting off the year hurt and betrayed after finding out about Carla and Peter's affair, she soon moved on to Nick Tilsley and married him last month after a series of ups and downs. However will that relationship last after Leanne finds out what happened on christmas night? |

9 (13) Deirdre Barlow 520 Points (Final Round)
In 9th place and making the top 10 for the first time we have Deirdre Barlow! I must say I was surprised to see Deirdre making the top 10 for the first time, as she's had a slightly quieter year than usual, however I absolutely love the character of Deirdre so I was thrilled to see it happen! Most of Deirdre's year has involved her chasing after her daughter Tracy and husband Ken, however a spanner was put in the works after Ken was reunited with old flame Wendy Crozier, the woman who ruined their marriage all those years ago! I think Deirdre's a brilliant comedy character, I just find her completely hilarious, I think Anne Kirkbride is great as well and hopefully she'll stay in the soap for many years to come! Will Deirdre have a bigger year next year? |

8 (10) Norris Cole 532 Points (Final Round)
In 8th place and one of the 5 characters to have made the top 10 in all 3 years of this competition, we have Norris Cole! Norris has always done very well in this competition, some people find him a little annoying which has probably prevented him getting better than the lower part of the top 10, but he is still clearly a very popular character! Norris didn't particularly have any major storylines this year, however he was still regularly seen and fulfilled his role as the street's resident busybody! This year we even saw him go head to head with Tracy Barlow, after they fell out whilst both being lodgers at Emily Bishop's house. Norris is a hilarious character and really is a credit to the show, what will 2013 bring for him? |

7 (61) Kirsty Soames 544 Points (Final Round)
In 7th place, and with a whopping 44 place rise, we have Kirsty Soames. I don't think anyone would have predicted that Kirsty would ever make the top 10 at this point last year, she was pretty new to the street and wasn't that popular, only just escaping from the bottom 5. However it really has been a brilliant year for Kirsty with the domestic abuse storyline, and even though she's been the perpetuator of the domestic abuse, it has been a fantastic storyline and Kirsty's shown herself to be a brilliant character, one of the best we've had in years imo. Despite her being the 'villain' of the storyline, I've actually felt a lot of sympathy for Kirsty, that is partly down to the great writing for the character that we've had, and also down to the absolutely amazing performance Natalie Gumede has given, I really do think she is the best actress on the soap. I even gave Kirsty my top ranking in the final round, so I'm really pleased to see her do so well and get such a big rise in rankings! |

6 (2) Carla Connor 614 Points (Final Round)
In 6th place, and dropping out of the top 2 for the first time, we have Carla Connor! I was actually pretty surprised at her ranking this year, although the results were very close around places 6-4 and she was top 5 for most of the voting. Carla probably has one of the strongest fan bases out of all the characters in the competition, and I think a few people will be disappointed with this result, and I am a bit as I am a big fan of Carla, especially considering Carla won the first year of this competition and this is a bit of a drop! However Carla did spend a lot of the year off screen so that may have weakened her chances. Carla started off the year as probably the main character of the soap, her storyline involving Frank Foster and affair with Peter Barlow dominated the soap for the first few months, until Alison King and Chris Gascoyne took a break and Peter and Carla set off around the world. She has since been a bit more low key since her return, however I still think she steals any scene she's in, and I do think Alison King is one of the best actresses on the soap- as shown by her recent BSA win! Will Carla be able to regain her top 2 placings next year? |

Considering she was off screens July-December and has barely been in Corrie of late, I think 6th is a pretty reasonable spot for Carla. I reckon she's one of the most polarising characters and so I reckon she's either top or bottom of people's lists.
544-614 points is a massive jump though! Audrey to win ![]() Thanks so much for organising/compiling this Niall

I loved when Carla ruined that for him and kicked out of Underworld, however annoyingly he’s now become joint owner!
